GROWING APPLES
There is big excitement in C block today.
On the window sill, in a plastic ice cream cup a little plant is growing.
This is all the men want to talk about: how an apple seed germinated in a crack of damp concrete; how they tore open tea bags to collect the leaves, leached them in water, then laid the sprout onto the bed made of Lipton. How this finger of spring dug one delicate root down into the dark fannings and now two small sleeves of green
are pushing out from the emerging tip.
The men are tipsy with this miracle.
Each morning, one by one, they go to the window and check the progress of the struggling plant.
All through the day they return to stand over the seedling and whisper.

There is so much hope in growing things. Plant seeds - even if all you have is a teabag & a bit of sun. Be witness to the miracle & power of the life source.

RIP Mr. Lynch. I remember sitting at a table next to you just downwind of your cigarette at the canteen at Hollywood Studios. I often thought you were the one secretly scripting my life, all the inexplainably strange and wonderful moments, the beautiful and the terrible alike. Your legacy lives on.

β€œStand Off” by Nancy Miller Gomez There are 14 men in the lunchroom. Some are sitting in chairs, some standing, some prowling around the edges of the room. They are men who have grown used to being on a schedule, and this is snack …

Now they aren’t angry men.
They are hungry boys who have just been fed.

Dylan wanted more than anything to play hockey, but as a working mom, I couldn't get him to the ice rink for practices. It is still his favorite sport - he watches avidly. For years, I've carried immense guilt he couldn't play. But now, in an instant - the guilt is gone. Thanks for sharing, Jen.

I'm a little late to the game - but trying to establish myself here on Bluesky. Thanks to @litbowl.bsky.social for sharing a poem from Inconsolable Objects!

My first full length poetry collection, Inconsolable Objects is available for pre-order. I'd be honored if you bought my book, but also, please support my publisher and my amazing press mates and buy copies of their books as well.
