Gen. Grynkewich: "What I've observed over the course of studying air power in history is that any time you attack a civilian population, you usually end up finding that it just hardens their resolve."
Bombing a school full of the offspring of Iranian military officers also means that the brass is also likely eager for a maximalist response here, and historically the last thing a new leader wants is to have a sizable military bloc braying for blood while you try to appease the enemy.
I think people are overrating the odds the ayatollah is a purely rational utility maximizer and underrating the odds the guy is rather upset about his father, wife, and daughter being incinerated and wants his pound of flesh.
1) horrific, abominable decision that leaves no doubt IDF discipline needs to happen in international courts rather than internally.
2) be cool if we could stop redefining the blood libel
Lunatic!
"Your kids don't need so many toys for Christmas, and they dont need any of that plastic crap. They probably wouldn't like what you choose anyway. Go to the thrift store, buy something you already know another kid loved. Thank you for your attention to this matter."
You seem like a pretty good egg.
I wish there was a properly good bio of Bear.
President guessed my shoe size and now I've got to wear clown shoes. 🤷🏻♂️
A high-powered Chicago law firm announced a plan Monday to push for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate and potentially charge the agents who carried out Operation Midway Blitz.

That was what I responded to. I assumed this was a clever post.
Thats depressing
Both are so great.
Same with someone i just talked to in the phillippines. Rest of the world living in a reality-based environment and the US out here just playing videogames
Thanks!
Any good recommendations for reading on mindedness?
Very much agree. Recently returned from many years various places elsewhere to SEA, in part for that reason. We gotta get the big levers out of the hands of the baddies though!
Simulacrum is exactly it. 🎯
Incidentally, just checked your bio. Stumbling into the jerryverse of BSKY via this conversation - the algorithm rewards today.
As to untrustworthy, feels harder & harder to find anything that status doesn't describe. This week's global horror v much included.
Have you seen the WSJ today? I think this one escapes containment. Its like COVID but entirely a US made global disaster.
Oh give me the flying cars of the lovingly illustrated books of my childhood. In a zero-pollution clear sky
I believe you. It all just seems so uncanny. And obviously we are very fooled by AI. Ppl falling in love, etc. I know thats a different expression of the naivete described above, but I, too, find it bewildering, if not yet beguiling.
The more tech evolves, the more it seems to me like many elements of human behavior are basically like a pachinko machine, with the slots determined by some combo of genes and early experience/trauma. Thats not something I "want" but it feels similar to the belief that tool use was uniquely human
That we were the only country to recover from Covid without a recession had nothing to do with luck. Joe Biden appointed and hired the best and the brightest and did a hell of a job as President. If he’d received media coverage that reflected his performance, he’d have cruised to reelection.
Is this new mango discourse or ongoing from that other thread week(s?) ago?
I think underneath that is the dawning realization that likely much of what we think of as our own agency and consciousness is incredibly predictable and perhaps very similar to LLM.
🚨 Normally I'd wait until #MINNESOTA's filing deadline before promoting this page, but given the hostile occupation of Minneapolis, I've moved it up.

So according to the WSJ a US Senator conspired with another country to manipulate the US into starting a war, am I getting this right
