I understand how strong hyper-normalization is (not to mention individualism) and how successful the west is/was in politicizing something as simple as wearing a mask, I just wish it wasn’t the reality we face. I wish people cared more.
Knowing what I know now about covid—and long covid for that matter—and the health risks it puts on every person who comes into contact with it…it’s just so unsettling to see the potential of communities of people being harmed simply because they got sick with covid.
It feels so weird being someone who still masks regularly. Currently on the ferry and in the last hour and a half, I have only seen one other passenger wearing a mask. I know I cannot possibly encounter every person on this boat to see if they’re masked or not…but it still gives me pause.
