"Pat, why do you carry that ridiculous 600mm lens on long hikes?"

Buddy, I can see mountains reflected in the eyes of a trailside pika.

Sacrificial Violence and Retribution We explore the responses to the killings of Jordan Neely and Brian Thompson as a way to understand the different forms of violence that are contending in our society today.

Unsurprisingly, fascism looks a bit different this time around than it did a century ago. But it already has its Henry Ford, its autocrats, its scapegoats against whom to direct anger, its sacrificial violence.

We should have no illusions about what we're up against.

The appetite was always there, I think it just took a few mega organised / pro-active people to jump start something. Now it has a good momentum. Check out Eastbourne Music Collective on FB / IG for info about upcoming gigs. They list their own stuff plus what other promoters are up to.

Believe In Nothing live in Eastbourne last night. Their live debut was in May '24 & since then they've left a nasty scar across Sussex. The singer moves to Scotland early in 2025 so local gigs are likely to be less frequent, but they just signed to a great label so they have plenty more to come.

The Defamation Project live in Eastbourne last night. They play erratic noisy metal with interludes, like a bunch of the more wacky Mike Patton bands with a bit of Primus. It's a father and some combo and the drummer may be young (under the mask!!) but he's an absolute fucking monster on that kit.

Notice both the hours and the intensity. It’s clearly an addiction bundled in with spiralling narcissism. Will be interesting to see if there is a crash at some point.

#NowPlaying Weight Shift. - Hales from Aether, 2024

Fucking hell, this is awesome. Dirty, dirty, sludgy doom with oodles of grungy groove. The drums are so in your face it's like you're the pillow in the kick.

Track two is like the bastard child of Alice in Chains, Mastodon and Eyehategod.

Wow.
