All wars create unexpected second and third-order effects. One of the appalling things about the Trump administration is that they donβt seem to have thought through the expected effects either. open.substack.com/pub/danieldr...
Just a reminder itβs been two days since reports came out, later acknowledged by Trump and his Administration, that Russia has been helping Iran to try and kill US military personnel.
And the Trump response so far has been...drum roll please...to reduce sanctions on Russia!
I think AI will do some things better than us - for instance, counting mitoses. However, things that are based on professional experience AI can't replicate yet (if ever).
Even when it's pretty good (coding), it still makes really dumb mistakes as well. That doesn't work in path.
I have watched this approximately 47 times and laughed out loud 47 times
usually if you ask experts why an empire fell theyβll say itβs nuanced and multifaceted, so i think itβs kind of cool that with America future historians will get to just say like βoh they took the idiot train to moronsvilleβ

it really is just stunningly on the nose that the opening salvo to Trumpβs supposed war
of liberation in Iran began with bombing a girlβs school.
if you put that in fiction people would dismiss it as being too maudlin and heavy-handed, and yet this kind of thing just keeps actually happening.
βLetβs kick this off not just with a war crime, but with a war crime that specifically targets young women in a regime that is famously misogynistic while we try to claim moral superiorityβ
38% of airline passengers vote to open plane door midflight because that bitch stewardess said not to
Markwayne Mullin is awful and corrupt for many reasons.
Not having a college degree is not one of them.
I know plenty of people W/O degrees who have more moral backbone, smarts, common sense, and compassion than at least half of Congress. Mullin isn't one, but not bc he did not graduate college.

Holy shit
I will miss Kristi Noem's inimitable constitutional insights, as when, asked by Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H. at a Senate hearing to define "habeas corpus," she replied, "Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country."

Good grief. Iβm not sure sheβs thought this through. Unless, of course, she actively *wants* allies & enemies to believe that she would happily order the British military to commit war crimes.
Raytheon Executive: I know youβre skeptical about buying American again. But hear me out. The MIM-104 Patriot is the only surface to air missile system with a proven track record of success against the US Air Force.
Danish Defense Minister: Continue.

On top of all the reporting that this war of aggression was planned well in advance, it seems that the reporting also indicates that the US political leadership are quite literally too stupid to understand basic diplomacy. I mean literally not smart enough.
This is amazing.

Yes
one way to look strong is to have a principle or value that you stand by and fight for even when it doesn't poll well. this is basically what Beshear has argued with trans issues.
but the current dem governing and electoral strategy is almost ontologically opposed to doing that
good news everybody
Oh my god I didn't expect time travel this afternoon. Whoa
I really appreciate this TikToker with Tourette syndrome, Shay, for taking the time to educate so many of us (including me) about her disability and coprolalia in light of what happened at the BAFTAs with John Davidson when Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were on stage.
I learned a lot.
Any time youβre tempted to take legal academia seriously, just remember that John Yoo has never paid even the slightest price within the academy.
If you're thinking about the BAFTA situation and trying to navigate the intersection of Disability, Race, and systemic rather than merely individual anti-blackness, I highly recommend watching this video (part two as well), from @jumaane.bsky.social D. Williams.
A lot of people, including me, were wondering how an IRB could ever approve this study.
The answer is that no IRB did. The person who βsigned offβ on approval from the only ethics board that reviewed it had resigned three years earlier. His signature was used without his knowledge.
You know who really has a good vantage on what universities can and should be? Faculty. Not always the organizational structure and operation, because that's not the job, But what it takes to educate? Yep. Yet the overwhelming media coverage is by and about ppl w very little to no experience.
Why donβt women come forward when theyβve been sexually assaulted? I grew up around these types of people, I grew up around people whoβd always support hating on a girl over a boy.
They are VERY common attitudes in close communities.
