The windstorm on Sunday March 8th took down some large alder trees here at the farm and crush the fence on the way down. More firewood for the near future.
The same storm took down many trees and power lines in the valley and the power was out for many hours.
@markhamillofficial.bsky.social You can move to British Columbia. We just changed it for the last time. Done with that. Cheers!
A good thing, & there are over looked additional yields, shade being one, heat another. Raised high enough for grazing &/or horticulture, they reduce evaporation & incr H2O infiltration. Earthworks needed in sloped areas. Tapping the heat is doable but more technical. Hot planets need shade.
Globally, mycorrhizal fungal communities move roughly a billion tons of carbon per year into Earth's soils, above all in old-growth forests.
Wild, natural ecosystems are the bedrock of a healthy planet. It's time we started recognising and acting on that.

A new wetland restoration project on private land evolving in the Slocan Valley, BC with the support of the landowners and @srstreamkeepers.bsky.social and BCWF.
Hazel nuts / filberts are fairly easy to grow in a wide range of temps & soils. Each shrub makes transplantable side shoots AND seedling volunteers. Great for chop & drop mulch, fodder (deer like 'em), nuts of course, habitat, wildlife support, screen, etc. If you lived near me, I'd give you starts.

Dams have blocked salmon from making their traditional migration through the Columbia River Basin, so these First Nations are sharing fish eggs across the colonial border to help the salmon on their journey. From our friends at @indiginews.bsky.social: thenarwhal.ca/syilx-salmon...
