Whether you interpret Durin as a child or an adult (doesn't matter to me,) innocence and curiosity are undeniable themes of his character. You can have these traits at any age you are. If you have yet to experience the crushing weight of a painful existence, enjoy it while it lasts.

Looking at Durin gives me the same feeling I get when looking at happy children. Children are more likely to be happy that they were born because they have not been crushed by the devastating reality yet. They're happy they were born, many adults are not.

All that said, if you're going to do it, don't do it on Google Docs since it scrapes their writing for AI training. There's Ellipsus and other apps.

And DO NOT use generative AI to rewrite or "continue" fics. If there's an actual sin that harms the writers when it comes to fan fictions, it's AI.

No different from thinking "oh character x would have worked better in this scene than character y."

Policing how other people harmlessly enjoy their lives is a waste of energy and is 100 times more disrespectful than what it is you're mad about in the first place.

What they're doing is no different from daydreaming your self insert while watching a TV show. It's no different than coming up with alternate endings or canon divergence from someone else's work.

Would also like to add that TikTok audios created for specific characters but redrawn or reimagined with different characters is pretty much the same thing. No one is mad about it because it's fun. Don't be anti-fun now come on.

If you can't handle people interpreting your works differently from how you intended then you're not ready for them to be posted publicly. People misinterpret Genshin characters all the time but you don't see the writers bitching about it on Twitter.

"Write your own fics." I do, actually. But even if I didn't, my point would still stand. If people liked my writing enough to imagine different characters in the scenarios I've wrote, I'd be flattered, actually. Take it as a compliment because I promise, it is not an attack.

So it's pointless to be angry about fan fiction of fan fiction existing because half the time, you won't even know people are changing the names for their own personal enjoyment. There was no malicious intent. No harm either.

Fan fictions do the exact same thing. Fan fictions sometimes rewrite canon, more characters are added, OC's are shipped with canon characters etc. You don't see the writers of the source material getting mad at fan fiction for existing.

Do not let anyone tell YOU how to enjoy YOUR consumption of fiction. It's personal to you and nobody else's business but your own. And if you're an author, you have to accept that people aren't going to interpret your works exactly how you want them to.

You guys care way too much about things that don't affect you. I have fics and if someone did this to any of mine, I wouldn't care at all as long as they don't share it publicly or claim it as their own. As long as they still support my original work.

I don't have to fit arbitrary standards to deserve to exist happily in this world. I have a right to exist. Everyone does.

I'm not well. I don't have to achieve anything big right now. I am allowed to just exist, to just live, even if I'm not what society deems as successful. I just have to focus on living another day. Achieving something big can wait. I can't do that if I'm not alive.
