I got one yesterday to "Grant" from "Witherspoon Reece" to feature my book "Giftige Beweise - Poison Evidence: Thriller (German Edition)" in Reese’s Book Club. πŸ™„

I wasn't sure if I would be able to visit home in the next six months, but this changes things.

Also I'll never be silent on things like trans rights, womens rights, voting rights, racism, fascism, and white supremacy. The things I can't post about are very, very specific.

I feel like I should pin the above post but even that could be risky in these times. But still, it's something I want to be made clear and I know I'm not alone in this position.

I live in a space where I have to be careful about what I say about political things, but if you've read my books my politics are clear and I'm not silent in the ways that matter.

I think about them a lot. I know how it felt to have everything yanked away and the uncertainty, but I also knew financially, *we* would survive. I really can't imagine how awful it was for those who gave up everything.

I know of 1 family-only 1 week behind us in the process-who finally moved here 2 months ago. To the best of my knowledge, this is the 1st to PCS here since we did. I don't know what happened to the 1000s who lost everything at the whim of the richest man in the world who chose to fuck everyone over.

We were lucky. We had my income to fall back on and we hadn't rented or sold our house/car etc. The waiver came fast--we were only in limbo for a short period. Others quit their jobs, sold their homes and cars, and were living in hotel rooms that the government was supposed to pay for.

A year ago today/tomorrow/yesterday (it's muddled between time zones) our move to Okinawa was canceled 6 hours before we left for the airport-after our household goods were packed/stored/shipped. We got a waiver & moved 2 weeks later but today my heart is with those in the same situation who didn't.

My 72yo BIL went to high school with Bill Gates and Paul Allen. He graduated a year or two before them. People in their 70s built the internet we have now.

Tomorrow my nephew, his wife & 16 month old arrive for a short stay. Her family is flying in from Taiwan & we're having everyone over for dinner. They were amazing hosts to us when we were in Taipei last fall and I want to return the experience. My nephew's father died in 2010. I hope to honor him.

One of the things that I find so lovely about living in Okinawa is how incredibly, genuinely kind everyone is. It is hard to explain how different it feels to be in public spaces here compared to in the US.

If you were on the jury, would you vote to convict this repeat offender?

@victoriastrauss.com this is another example of the next step in the "author reaching out to connect" con. A pitch to get the author who responded to hire a marketing team that does not exist.

My books are political because archaeology and history are political. (Hence current efforts to stop teaching non-white centered history and removing anthropology and sociology from universities.) There is no shift in my focus. Fuck off to anyone who would claim I shy away from being political.

I feel violated. Yet I know it really has nothing to do with me at all. It's just fucking con artists using the plagiarism machine that stole from me to scam people.

There isn't a word in there that is something I would actually say or think.

I don't have a marketing team. There is no "we" in my work. It's mine and I write about the political landscape I want to write about not with some great marketing idea but because I like calling out white supremacists.

Fwd: Hello from a Fellow Author
In today's world you can't be too careful. Is the email below from Rachel Grant?

Hi Gregor,
Thank you for sharing that, I truly appreciate the honesty in your reflections.
I completely understand the concern about political fatigue. It's a question many authors are quietly asking right now. What I've found, though, through working closely with my marketing team, is that reader appetite hasn't necessarily diminished for high-stakes political or legal narratives. Rather, the way those stories are positioned has become increasingly important.
In my own experience, we've shifted the focus from "politics" as a headline concept to the deeper human elements, moral complexity, power dynamics, personal risk, and the emotional consequences of institutional decisions. When framed around character and tension rather than topical commentary, those stories tend to resonate strongly, even with readers who feel oversaturated by current events.
Sometimes it's not a matter of changing genres, but of refining how the work is introduced to its audience.
Your legal background offers an authenticity that cannot be manufactured. That depth of lived experience is a significant advantage, particularly in a genre where credibility matters. And your idea for a more unconventional crime thriller sounds like an exciting creative direction as well, it's always energizing to explore new territory.
If you would find it helpful, I would be very glad to introduce you to my marketer. She has been thoughtful and strategic in helping me evaluate positioning and audience engagement, especially during moments of creative transition. Of course, there would be no obligation whatsoever, simply an opportunity for conversation, should you feel it might be beneficial.
Please let me know your thoughts. I genuinely value these exchanges and the opportunity to discuss the craft and business of writing with fellow authors.
Warm regards,
Rachel

This is deeply disturbing. I received this from an author I've never heard of (I looked him up before replying to be certain he is real & this wasn't just another kind of scam to get me to reply--because I've also received those). I am disgusted by this email that was supposedly written by ME.

I don't know why I'm surprised it's been 25 years, especially considering the baby I held as the world shook is now 26. And the viaduct is now gone and the Seattle waterfront completely changed. But still, time is weird, because it doesn't feel like this memory could possibly be that old.

And our governments are very much the same."
