"This is not a victimless crime – generative AI competes with the people whose work it is trained on, robbing them of their livelihoods. The government must protect the UK’s creatives, and refuse to legalise the theft of creative work by AI companies."

For. Fuck. Sakes.
And yet again, I will remind everyone that lawful access has *twice* been ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of Canada, and that the Liberals fought against it for fifteen years before Carney came in and suddenly they were in favour of it.

Perry: This St. Patrick’s Day, don’t forget Irish music’s anti-fascist roots Dropkick Murphys, the iconic Irish American punk band, are headlining a free block party March 6 near where Alex Pretti was killed by immigration agents, contributing columnist David M. Perry writes.

NEW β€œWe’re celebrating a tradition that is at its core about resisting occupation and maintaining community in the face of horrors. You can’t keep politics out of Irish music. No one should try, for two reasons. First, it’s ahistorical. Second, Minnesotans are ready for a big anti-fascist party.”

It's not that complicated.

This government should be able to explain how they came up with the budget and why they made the cruel choices they did.

But they can't. Or they won't. Either option is a betrayal of the public's trust.

My favorite part of Houston's announcement was when he said resource extraction companies are going to come here, set up shop & spend money (before they destroy our environment & hide in tax havens). While ignoring that people who already live, work & spend money here are losing their livelihood.

We give taxes to governments so they can do what businesses can’t. Provide vital services to everyone, not just those who can pay. Teach kids our history and traditions. Give dignity to seniors. Make this a safe and decent place to live.

Not to mention that the people in the tourism, arts and culture sector don't destroy nature, won't offload their clean up costs onto the public and will always be here driving economic gains for people who are actually doing something worthwhile instead of polluting the earth.

Growth doesn’t pay for itself because HRM has prioritized growth in areas where service costs exceed tax revenue.

Trey Yesavage will pitch in a Minor League game tomorrow at the #BlueJays’ complex, John Schneider says.

Plan is for two innings, which could leave time for two more β€œstarts” in camp. Whether those happen in Minor League games or the β€œreal” ones, TBD.

'To the arts community: you are valued. You're why people choose to live in the province, and it's the arts that make life worth living.
No funding, though, go utterly fuck yourselves. This deficit I manufactured is a real doozy and you're gonna need to suck it up, you hippy freaks.'

Because I've been preparing a committee statement, I've been thinking a lot about the budget & Financial Measures Act together. This budget isn't really about austerity, it's creating an autocracy.

The point is to subjugate Nova Scotians & consolidate power for resource extraction.

The premier of Nova Scotia’s ENTIRE plan is based on oil and gas extraction. He just said it on air. That is his only plan. Our biggest industry is tourism and he just cut $$ to tourism, arts & conservation (all reasons why people come here).

PREMIER’S OFFICE/FINANCE/TREASURY BOARD--$53.6 Million in Grants, Funding Reinstated
------------------------------------------------------
The Province will reinstate $53.6 million in grants and funding to support people with disabilities, seniors and education initiatives for 2026-27.

β€œNova Scotians have spoken. We listened, and we are reinstating supports to disabilities programming, seniors programming and African Nova Scotian and Indigenous students. These are grants that help people meet their basic daily needs,” said Premier Tim Houston. β€œWe wish we could do more. We will continue to look for opportunities to support all Nova Scotians as our fiscal picture improves.”

The government is reinstating $21.4 million in grants to support seniors and people with disabilities, and to help African Nova Scotians and Indigenous people access educational opportunities. Another $10 million will go back to organizations that support those groups.

It is also re-establishing $22.2 million in funding to community programs that support seniors, disability groups and the African Nova Scotian and Indigenous communities.

The deficit will now stand at $1.24 billion before contingency.

The Houston government has backed down ever so slightly. Notably, cuts to arts grants are not restored:
