Memo to the Department for Infrastructure:
Instead of spending money on adverts to encourage people to cycle in Belfast, when large parts of the city aren't safe for it, how about investing in safe cycling infrastructure?
These tick box exercises serve no one, but yourselves.

A political quote graphic from Green Party NI. The background is a blurred, muted photograph of a man carrying a young child among a crowd of displaced people β suggesting refugees fleeing conflict. The image is deliberately softened, conveying human dignity rather than distress. Large white quotation marks appear in the upper left corner. A thin white rectangular border frames the image. In large bold white text: βEvery bomb dropped on an oil-producing region sends two shockwaves. One hits your energy bill. The other forces hundreds of thousands of people from their homes.β Below the quote, in bold white: βCllr Barry McKeeβ and beneath that in regular white text: βBangor West.β At the bottom centre, the Green Party Northern Ireland logo β a green leaf beside βgreenpartyβ in white, with βNORTHERN IRELANDβ beneath in smaller text.ββββββββββββββββ

Never forget that on June 20, 1979, Pres. Carter had 32 solar panels installed on the roof of the White House. He was a visionary.
Ronald Reaganβs first act as president was to remove them. He was indebted to the fossil fuel industry.
Imagine what USA could be today without the GOP.

Price of Crude Oil WTI (USD/Bbl) over a five-year period, spanning from 2021 to early 2026. The chart shows a significant price peak in 2022 reaching over $120, followed by a general downward trend with various fluctuations, eventually hitting a low near $55 in late 2025 before a sharp vertical spike to the current price of 90.900. This recent surge represents an increase of +23.880 (+35.63%), highlighted in green text above the blue line graph.
The real insanity isnβt how much oil prices have spiked, itβs that weβre still burning oil for energy.

From a pro-planet perspective, high oil prices is a GOOD thing.
But you have to be zoomed WAY out to see that.
Maybe someday, we'll have politicians who deliberately adjust prices for things based on their societal harm vs societal good scores to PREVENT deaths.

Things are not going to get better as long as oligarchs rule the roost in our democracies | George Monbiot
If we want the kind of fair, functioning state Britain saw post-1945, we need to take on the economic powers that wrecked it, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot
From 1941 to 1952 in the UK, the top rate of income tax was 98%. A luxury goods purchase tax introduced in 1940 later rose to 100%.
Result? The share of incomes captured by the richest 0.1% fell from 7% in 1937 to just over 1% in 1975. That's what we need today. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

To restore democracy and create a fairer, safer, greener world, we need massive taxes on the ultra-rich. As in the 1940s. People get confused about this. The main purpose of such taxes is *not* to raise revenue. The point is to stop the few dominating the many. It's an essential democratic measure.

How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.

The Hunger Gap
A gulf in public understanding prevents us from seeing how and why our food supply is at risk.
In 2023, I sought to explain to a parliamentary committee what a structural collapse of the global food system would look like, and why this this is plausible - even likely. I think the likelihood has just ratcheted up a notch. I beg you to read and understand. Thanks

FREED SEX TRAFFICKER PLACED IN HOSTEL NEAR VULNERABLE WOMEN
Pervert pensioner back on the streets near Queenβs University after spending a year in prison
Sunday Life8 Mar 2026Ciaran Barnes
A pervert pensioner jailed for involvement in a sinister sex trafficking gang which targeted vulnerable women is back walking the streets.
Kenneth Harvey is now holed up in a hostel in the shadow of Queenβs University in Belfast, yards from where he exploited his drug addict victims.
The 75-year-old moved there recently after serving a one-year prison sentence for trafficking a prostitute and paying for sexual services. This was his second conviction for crimes of this nature.
Probation sources questioned the decision to place Harvey in a hostel so close to the scene of his crimes and which is in an area with a high concentration of vulnerable drug addicts.
βI couldnβt believe it when I found out he had been placed there,β an insider told Sunday Life.
βThe hostel is notorious for housing sex offenders and is right next to Queenβs University.
I'm also aware of a small housing block that is mostly occupied by elderly women. They've moved a rapist in with them. Funnily enough, the 'protect women and girls' lot, who have been informed, don't care because he's white.

NI MOST DANGEROUS PLACE IN THE UK FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS
Series of talks warning teenagers to be on their guard for early signs of violence and control in relationships
Sunday Life8 Mar 2026Angela Davison
That was the message delivered to a group of pupils at South West College (SWC) in Dungannon at a workshop on gender-based violence.
The interactive seminars, held at colleges across Northern Ireland, are designed to spark conversation about, and raise awareness of, the signs of unhealthy relationships.
They also teach students what to do if they, or someone they know, is suffering abuse.
SWC student governor Ryan Kearney told Sunday Life: βThe idea stemmed from my campaign to be elected as student governor.
βUnhealthy relationships and gender-based violence are common and can be down to multiple factors, including the rise of online misogynistic messages by the likes of Andrew Tate.
βA friend of mine was a victim, and I noticed she had changed and wasnβt her normal self. Her boyfriend became more controlling, manipulative and tried to isolate her.
