People are so creative!
Sorry to miss seeing both of you!
Disturbingly detailed analysis of my first rewatch incoming
Maybe, if you're not actually in university classrooms, teaching students in the age of gAI, perhaps you might want to stop and listen when people actually in those classrooms raise concerns about what they are seeing; and not just dismiss us as luddites, or boomers, or cruel profs playing cops
Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.
This is amazing β so useful! Thank you.
I love that former NYT public editor @sulliview.bsky.social is public-editing from the outside.
"With this made-up scandal, combined with the pre-election editorial, the Times looks like itβs on a crusade against Mamdani.
"And no lofty explanation about the mission can disguise it."
Both? Both?!?!?!?!?
If you need any more evidence for why he can't be mayor. ffs!
New Yorkers: good luck today and remember not to vote for or even slate anyone who is a known sex pest
this is like drake and kendrick lamar but they're both drake
Trump needs to understand that Harvard has 400 years of experience ignoring the demands of people who will be gone in four years.
A screen cap of an article hed with a photo of a chef in a stainless steel kitchen, peaking potatoes. There are 6 additional chefs working in the background. The headline is βDiet of Worms will help us survive climate change, say top chefsβ. The post is a play on the famous Edict of Worms, issued by the Diet of Worms, which condemned Martin Luther as a heretic.
Glad to see weβre addressing the root cause of all of this: Lutherβs heresy
House Republicans just passed the SAVE Act, ushering in a new era of voter suppression.
Hereβs how the SAVE Act could impact YOUR ability to vote in federal elections. π§΅
Only two signers in the top 50 ranked by US News & World Reports - Georgetown and Rutgers. That is, no other major grant-funded research universities, so those two really stand out as brave. Georgetown maybe is living up to their Catholic heritage - they also resisted pressure on their law school.
Brief from the Presidentsβ Alliance on Higher Education and more than 80 universities says arrests and deportations of student protesters create a βclimate of fearβ at universities across the country. This is a big dealβthe first time universities have weighed in. knightcolumbia.org/documents/eh...

Bridget with The Beatles on Abbey Road.
Bridget hanging out in Grant Wood's American Gothic.
Bridget in Bruegel's Hunters In The Snow (with a freshly caught mouse).
The Cat With The Pearl Earring.
A little while ago, my parents' cat Bridget went missing. As the weeks dragged on, they became extremely worried. My dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up in some of art and music's most iconic scenes.
For those folks who have been waiting to climb the pole and ring the βconstitutional crisisβ bell, it would appear we have arrived. Neither Judge Sorokin nor Judge Boasberg believed that he was signing a meaningless order, and both judges demanded compliance that never came.
The Constitution is clear: the President can't arrest people he disagrees with.
By detaining Mahmoud Khalil β a legal permanent resident whose American wife is 8-months pregnant β Donald Trump seeks to undermine basic freedoms.
We must oppose this move toward authoritarianism.
Tweet by Olivia Beavers: π Flag-ging: Speaker Johnson previously said the House would raise the US flags for Inauguration Day to full staff, but operations are encountering an issue: the cords are frozen, a source in Johnsonβs office confirms to me.
The scriptwriters of the new season are starting strong

Being a historian means having your phone autocorrect "Merry Christmas" to "Merry Wiesner-Hanks".

As for me, of late I have been distracting myself from news about the present-day world with a dizzying journey into 17th century Chinese-Europe interconnections, featuring Gottfried Leibniz as a main character. andrewleonard.substack.com/p/the-univer...
From NYT obit for Silvia Pinal: "She was the product of a romance between her 15-year-old mother, MarΓa Luisa Hidalgo Aguilar, who worked in a restaurant, and the orchestra director MoisΓ©s Pasquel, who was already married at the time." Romance? Seriously?? Do better, NYT.
