Lovely to have spent the week in Liverpool for #UACES2025. Great to catch up with colleagues and friends, and to learn whatβs going in European Studies. Thanks to the amazing @uaces.bsky.social team for organising.

Was wondering how long it would take for fish to come up!
Great to be part of this panel at #PSA25 on pedagogical research and the value of teaching and scholarship career pathways.
I much prefer a room with moveable (proper) tables and (proper) chairs that can be reconfigured to meet the needs of the class (of course returning the room to the layout depicted in the poster next to the door so not to upset the aforementioned Director of Estates).
These chairs are the worst. Around a third in any given space are in a perpetual state of disrepair. Theyβre uncomfortable and provide no meaningful writing space. Often too many crammed into a room due to the βspace utilisationβ algorithm, the logic of which is known only to the Director of Estates
A new British Academy report on Politics and International Relations provision in UK higher education has found that it remains a popular subject, with graduates out-earning national averages. Read the report in full:

Very sad to see this. @ukandeu.bsky.social has, and continues to, put out important work on UK-EU relations which is rigorous and accessible, and is a model of how social science research can inform public debate. Proud to have played a small part with the post-Brexit fisheries governance research
Peer observation is an important practice to learn how to teach, so I fully recommend reading this post by @anda19.bsky.social (1/2)
