i just think it's a case where there's a lot more to say, especially since it's arguably the reason video game movies have that stigma that, ironically, has only begun to waver now thanks to films like the Sonic movies.
i think the abstractness and ways it interprets mario concepts are why the 93 film is a cult classic which i kinda get. i just personally don't think it's *better* (though im
not exactly the biggest Illumination Mario fanatic either)
i think as a case study the 1993 movie is certainly more interesting but overall it's like... ehhhhh.

i'd still buy the Umbrella Entertainment 4K release though
i think as its own thing it's neat, i like the costumes they gave the duo and the set design is really interesting, but it is such a relic of a bygone era in some very specific ways where it's a hard recommendation unless its under very specific circumstances
i really don't think i'm ever gonna be convinced the 1993 Mario movie is better than the Illumination one even if Bob Hoskins being angry is entertaining

the first movie is held up together nearly singlehandedly by by the character moments and visual style and i'm kinda expecting that to ring true for galaxy also. looks more interesting at the very least, i like what they're doing with wart
idk i enjoyed the first movie enough even if i acknowledge as a movie, it's kind of a mess. them admitting they stuffed the galaxy movie with constant action doesn't really bode well in the latter regard but as a mario thing, it looks about as fun.
