I WISH I took pictures and videos but I was genuinely so upset and wanted to just leave. I blacked out for most of it. I’m not sure if things have improved at all since I visited, but good god I hope it has improved.
The monkeys enclosures had a lot of damage, they also paced a lot and looked bored out of their minds. Not much enrichment was visible during my visit. The birds also had a lot of injuries, and their enclosures were also damaged, and dirty.
A “cold climate” animal, not sure if it was fox but something small like a fennec fox, had a bigger outdoor area than its “cold icy” inside enclosure. It looked miserable.
It makes me so mad when the Phoenix zoo is right in the heart of Phoenix and does SUCH GREAT THINGS! Non profit, AZA accredited, and does WONDERFUL conservation. It’s so upsetting.
I’m not sure what animal it was but it was in with an “inside” area with other smaller animals, maybe a beaver ish animal of some kind. Walking in circles repeatedly. Wouldn’t stop, even when a caretaker came in the enclosure. It kept falling into his water river and hitting his head on things.
Big cats- the tigers enclosures were far too small and dirty as hell. Not cleaned up, dirty water sources, and the only enrichment actively in the enclosure when I went was a deflated ball. The tiger was pacing back and forth and looked bored, and depressed.
Prefacing with I did not pay for my ticket and I was dragged along to this zoo for free, and I had to leave early because I was genuinely so upset watching some of the animals.
It was the most depressing zoo experience i have ever had and I wish people would stop fucking supporting them. I’m sure the care takers actually love the animals but they do NOT have the proper needs for these animals.
As cute as Jelly bean the baby hippo here in Arizona is… FUCK WILDLIFE WORLD ZOO. They’re not AZA accredited and my experience there was fucking god awful. All of those animals should be relocated to rehabilitation centers and zoos who can actually properly care for them. Jesus fuckin Christ
