Washington state is about to ban noncompete agreements.

The state's House and Senate have both signed the bill, and it's headed to the governor's desk.

Washington would join a short list of states that prohibit almost all noncompetes.

Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important energy chokepoint that carries about one-fifth of all crude oil, according to two people familiar with US intelligence reporting on the issue.

Breaking: Rooftop solar loses in court, again It's time for a new way forward.

Big question now is what rooftop solar advocates do next, after years of painful defeats in California. I think a great starting point would be rallying around balcony solar, specifically a bill from @scottwiener.bsky.social. Again, details in the story: www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/california...

Governor Kay Ivey on Tuesday announced that she has commuted the death sentence of Charles L. Burton to life in prison with no chance of parole. Mr. Burton was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1991 capital murder of Doug Battle in Talladega, Alabama.

As required by law, the governor first reached out to a representative of Mr. Battle’s family. She also notified the attorney general. Governor Ivey’s letter to Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner John Hamm is attached.

Governor Ivey issued the following statement:

β€œI firmly believe that the death penalty is just punishment for society’s most heinous offenders, as shown by the 25 executions I have presided over as governor. In order to ensure the continued viability of the death penalty, however, I also believe that a government’s most consequential action must be administered fairly and proportionately.

β€œDoug Battle was brutally murdered by Derrick DeBruce while shopping in an auto parts store. But DeBruce was ultimately sentenced to life without parole. Charles Burton did not shoot the victim, did not direct the triggerman to shoot the victim and had already left the store by the time the shooting occurred. Yet Mr. Burton was set to be executed while DeBruce was allowed to live out his life in prison.

β€œI cannot proceed in good conscience with the execution of Mr. Burton under such disparate circumstances. I believe it would be unjust for one participant in this crime to be executed while the participant who pulled the trigger was not.

β€œTo be clear, Mr. Burton will not be eligible for parole and will rightfully spend the remainder of his life behind bars for his role in the robbery that led to the murder of Doug Battle. He will now receive the same punishment as the triggerman.

β€˜Outrageous’: Furor grows over ICE’s arrest, deportation of 6-year-old deaf Hayward child The uproar follows allegations that ICE agents mislead the family’s attorney and separated the child from vital equipment he needs to properly hear.

I’m rather surprised but pleased by the verdict - but I have a very strong feeling that their parents will make a transfer of money to Donald Trump - and they will then be pardoned. Hard to picture rich, well-connected men actually being punished for rape in this era.

β€œThis is a victory for every Oregonian who believes that exercising your constitutional rights should never put you in harm’s way.

We filed arguments and evidence in this case because what we documented was clear: unconstitutional behavior by ICE officers – targeting children, seniors, and peaceful crowds. Parents, teachers, union members, and some people who were just passing by – people who did nothing wrong. We received reports of children screaming in fear, and of senior citizens who couldn’t breathe.

This behavior is unacceptable and unlawful. Nationally, we’re seeing an administration that is perpetuating violence without justification, claiming immunity where none exists. We will continue to fight for Oregonians every day.

Minnesota lawmaker Katie Jones rode in a cargo e-bike to the hospital for her baby's birth. Her husband, Peter Schmitt, pedaled the two miles there.

On the return journey, their son Hans – all 8 pounds and 1 ounce of him – was bundled up and handled it just fine, Jones said.

If Iran does anything that stops the flow of Oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States of America TWENTY TIMES HARDER than they have been hit thus far. Additionally, we will take out easily destroyable targets that will make it virtually impossible for Iran to ever be built back, as a Nation, again β€” Death, Fire, and Fury will reign upon them β€” But I hope, and pray, that it does not happen! This is a gift from the United States of America to China, and all of those Nations that heavily use the Hormuz Strait. Hopefully, it is a gesture that will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

The bottom line is Trump sacrificed 8 American lives (& counting) and more than 1,000 Iranian lives (& counting) for nothing. He hurt the US & global economies, destabilized the Middle East, & will pull out with the same Iranian regime in power. There's no silver lining.

A senseless, criminal waste
