That is true, yes.
Disappointement is fair.

I don't understand why anyone feels guilty about not finishing a book they are not enjoying.
Do they also finish a meal they don't like?

The latest apparenty came from an established author, only I hope it didn't really or that author is a slimebag.
The organiZer of the club in question wanted Β£250 to create a QR code to share with the 3,000+ group members.
My client pre-empted my advice to block them immediately. πŸ˜‚

I concur. I am not a fan of "literature" in all honesty.
Rather like when people say that certain foods are an acquired taste, I am not always sure I WANT to acquire it.
Never happier than reading Pratchett or anything else with a bit of humour in it.

Yep, all these things are worryingly common now.
We got to the bottom of the latest one which a friend asked me to advise them of. They want Β£250 to put her book onto their lists for readers to pick up.
She has, of course, blocked the email now.

The scammers are relentless.
Please understand, no book club is EVER going to proactively seek you out. It is natural to hope so but that is not how the world works.
They are NOT looking through millions of new books searching for your novel when they haven't even read Northanger Abbey yet

Why has nobody mentioned it?

Yep, @zkat.tech who has closed off replies to this nonsense could not be more wrong. I wonder if they are in fact a real person themselves. Certainly they are utterly ignorant of the topic if they are.

This opinion is simply wrong and lacks appreciation of what UBI truly is, how people respond to it, and why we don't already have it. Simply put, UBI is the power to say NO and freedom to say YES. It's a foundation. It's individual strike power. It's general strike power. It's grassroots financing.

So true.
Hey, if we pool our resources and go back in time to 1971 we can probably afford a can of Coke between us

A hagstone

A hagstone

Stone steps sticking out from a wall

Stone steps sticking out from a wall

A very brisk trip to Lyme Regis this afternoon.

The hagstone is one of many that are easy to find on the beach there.

The stone steps are known as Granny’s Teeth and are traditionally said to be the location in Jane Austen’s β€˜Persuasion’ where Louisa Musgrove falls down something similar

Velma, the intellectual, as Phoebe? Nope. πŸ˜€
It just doesn't work.

26.02.2026 20:27 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

But that would make Phoebe, Velma which can't be right.
No question that Rachel is Daphne.

Could be

You are correct on that score. Most of the major parties are in some way beholden to Musk and Zuckerberg, et al via political donations

In the Scooby Doo one, that would make Phoebe Scrappy Doo! 🀣

Oh it’s #portfolioday!

Hi there πŸ‘‹

I’m an Edinburgh-based illustrator. I love nautical themes, birds and bookish things. I work in Procreate but love a textured analogue feel.

Here’s my website with more info and prints available for purchase spyglassillustration.com

BlueSky is not really the problem in that it doesn't have an algorithm.
I don't know about the public service thing. There is usually a tipping point when these things are big enough, they switch.
Let's see a real public service, government funded social media.

26.02.2026 10:30 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

No. Their existence as business doesn't depend on having carte blanche. That is a lie they want us to believe.
If they truly cannot survive without allowing unchecked illegal activity and lies then let them go bust.

26.02.2026 10:25 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I was using internet as shorthand.
Newspapers, TV and radio, and publishers must all comply with legal requirements.
We put no such restrictions on social media. That must change. It's not only children who suffer with the current status quo.
