This summer SEA is offering an undergraduate program exploring topics of ocean governance specifically looking at the effort to protect 30% of the Earth's ocean.
π£ Do you know a MA high school sophomore or junior who could benefit from a free, week-long program in #oceanscience this summer?

These sparkly critters are an unusual species of copepod called Sea Sapphires (Genus Sapphrina). The iridescent colors are the result of alternating layers of hexagonal guanine crystals and cytoplasm in a specialized layer of cells just below the hard exoskeleton. π #MarineLife
Last week, former Secretary of Education of New Zealand and former Director of Education for the World Bank, Maris O'Rourke (left), stopped by the Seamans in Auckland Harbor to chat more about SEA with Captain Allison Taylor and the crew.
π Oceanographers: this thread and linked article underscore the importance of NOT misconstruing passive ocean anthropogenic carbon uptake as contributing to the quest for net zero.
By providing high school students with the opportunity to gain hands on experience in marine science, we can help deepen their understanding of the ocean, strengthen critical thinking skills, and prepare them to tackle environmental challenges in their future academic and personal pursuits. #EduSky

Amelia Rastley from @colgateuniversity.bsky.social participated in this past summer's Coral Reef Conservation: Fiji program.
Amelia's research this summer examined how the ocean floor affects the variety of organisms and surfaces covering coral reefs.
Love our Westward alumns!
I love that this is still a program! I sailed on the SSV Westward an SEA alum from circa 1993.
This is what science at sea looks like for undergraduate students participating in one of SEA's study abroad programs #science #seaeducation
We are excited to announce Dr. Richard Hopper as SEA's next president. Rick will be joining SEA later this fall after having served as serving as Chief of Party for a US-funded higher education reform initiative in Vietnam.
Meet one of the newest member of SSV Robert C. Seamans, Cap. Cap is a paper nautilus pulled from one of the daily neuston tow deployments. Students on board the Seamans are participating in SEA's Oceans & Climate program, sailing from Fiji to Aotearoa New Zealand. π¦π§ͺπ
