January 2026 bird whisper project is a Gyrfalcon, and the largest falcon in the world, The gyrfalcon is larger, broader-winged and longer-tailed than the peregrine falcon, which it is known to compete with (and occasionally hunt). It differs from the buzzard in general structure, having pointed wings. Their plumage ranges from snowy white to tawny black and brown depending on age and sex and if in breeding season. Displayed here is a Gyrflacon resting on a branch with sketches of various flight poses and one with a mouth open demonstrating its head anatomy from the side.
