Magistrates have always been a quick fix, none of them hold legal qualifications. Only the district judges are qualified in law. People are convicted all the time by effectively some random. Giving them the power to imprison is insane.

It is rare to see such understanding of the justice system- as constructed, as intended, as it is, and as it strives to be despite decades of moronic cuts by both major parties for their own gains.
