MN—>NC—>MN for now + TBD! Urban planner-person ~ transportation, land use, zoning, environment | Often transportation and specifically Amtrak posting, probably! [also Minnesota sports, sorry!] | Opinions are just mine, thanks!

Oh that is very good to hear wow!! Some happy news for my Monday lol, thanks
I mean MT is just generally allergic to the idea of having an online store with any merch for sale! The desire many have for this has been conveyed to them for many years, and nothing’s ever happened. At this point it almost seems like some someone at MT vetoes the idea every time it comes up lol
Yes!! It is unreal! my mind remains blown!!
I am OBSESSED with this like WHAT is happening?!? Amazing sport ahh!!
Overheard, in two great Minnesotan accents: “Hey ‘Tom,’ what’s for supper tonight” [dramatic pause] “Ooh, you don’t wanna know…intelligible disgruntled words.” “Oooh, + surprised ope noise, ookay!”
@blixieb.bsky.social if you aren’t familiar somehow I feel you might appreciate this
Did I scream and jump around? You betcha I did❤️
GOLD! GOLD! GOLD!!! 🌟🥇💛
Lmao it does??! Then the real numbers are so incredibly bad! (But then again, I am assuming most systems don’t double-count transfers but maybe that isn’t so)
(I mean before the post 2020 ridership collapse the Blue and Green lines had some of the very highest ridership per mile of any LRT lines in the U.S.! And yet, some people in the Twin Cities think Denver system is “so much better” because of all the lines on a map!! No!!
Yes!! And this is why it cracks me up when people (mostly locally but also from elsewhere) go on about how “awful and worthless” Metro Transit’s (MN) light rail lines are…when even today with their worse ridership they are way more productive per mile + pretty good per station. Denver is sooo bad😆
And then one mid-late evening train, and then one (slow, because otherwise it would arrive in each city too early in the morning unless it left pretty late at night--especially if we ever did get higher speed or HSR!) overnight train in each direction!
They say to dream the world you want to live in or whatever, and I want to inhabit a world with hourly trains from Chicago to St. Paul!! I mean well and truly, ideally we'd have hourly trains 6 am to 6 p.m. [& also on a greenfield high speed rail line that stops in Rochester! Sigh, one day]
(Also there was a 150-200 person anti-ICE protest march—largest or 2nd largest in the town’s history—which is amazing, + a vigil for Alex Pretti & those who have been taken, & more. I’d guess the scope of article was narrower but there is a larger story. 250+ ppl did an observer training!!)
Would have been nice if they’d gotten a bit more context and included the (very visible/well-known around town) story of the Latino dad of 2 (“legal,” honors graduate, going to college, family man, ”did everything right” who was recently racially profiled & illegally detained!
Oh there’s plentyyy of those folks in Nobles County and even in Wgtn, which had many precincts that voted for trump. But no, they do not work on the line at JBS!
And you can guess what % of Nobles County (and even a large % of Wgtn itself) voted Trump in 2024. These people are all heroes.
Yes!! And even in places as small as Worthington (~14,000 in deep SW MN), they have a local rapid response group + observers; I don’t have a link right now (it would be to the Facebook post of the video) but they prevented a US citizen Latino man from being illegally abducted around a week ago!
I will never forget or forgive the fear they have caused. www.dglobe.com/news/local/r...
And on a freezing, windswept prairie night, over 125 came out for a vigil for Alex Pretti and all those who were taken! It was really beautiful even on the livestream. Multiple clergy came and they did bilingual prayers. All this in a town of only ~14,000!
As always, the most cynical folks in the metro need to stop acting like everyone in rural MN supports ICE and what’s been happening!! This was likely the largest pr 2nd-largest protest (150-200 ppl) in Worthington history after the BLM protest in 2020, based on my viewing of the livestream!
“Worst of the worst, criminals” how about “honors student, father of two, ’spotless’ record, beloved man of the community!!!”
They stole his phone and money in custody!😡In addition to everything else…
Great to see an outside news outlet finally covering the impact on Wgtn, but it oddly fails to mention the father of 2 who was illegally abducted via racial profiling, the Latino citizen who was nearly taken on his way to work, or the recent 150+ person protest! Will link local coverage below!
Thanks for the info! sad for all our snow prematurely melting + abnormally warm temps. I heard a week or so ago there was a chance for this to once again flip in very late February, and that another polar vortex-type even may occur—have you seen data indicating this?
“The Politics of Resentment:
Rural Consciousness in Wisconsin and the Rise of Scott Walker,” by Katherine J. Cramer, explains the rural part of this! I grew up in a conservative (purpleish around farm crisis; ruby red for decades now) rural area, & reading this in college brought things together.
Look at these lovely Chicagoans❤️
A massive and packed crowd of people holding up signs and flags while marching down a city street. In the background, two large glassy skyscrapers frame the street, while shorter brick buildings are in the foreground. A sign that says “ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA” and another with Renee’s face are both visible in the very foreground.
Thanks! A pic from today’s march💙🩵🤍
As a Minnesotan, thank you from the bottom of my heart. We will not give up but it helps to feel and hear the solidarity from all around the country and world!
@mprnews.org @startribune.com @sahanjournal.bsky.social @minnesotareformer.com @spokesmanrecorder.bsky.social Please cover this if you can! ICE unlawfully detained a father of 2 in the rural county seat town of Worthington, MN, today!
