playing jokes on myself by putting wonderwall on my ski playlist
also begging tv writers to know one (1) scientist, lol
what do you mean i have to go back to listening to boring focus music to accomplish anything?
Begging people who make tv to talk to one (1) plant knower in their life.
a cobbled beach on the bank of a deep Pacific Northwest River in August. Alder lines the river, reflecting green on the water. A pair of hiking boots, socks, and pants are scattered on the rocks. The botanist is out there like a freak, identifying plants in their underroos.
yes YES the botanist is free
(with apologies to Nael)
that feeling when you get the star trek joke in one of your favorite comfort reads 15 years later
a black cat with yellow eyes makes a sassy face at the person whose lap he is sitting in. He is very shiny and handsome and last night he was definitely pretending he had never heard of this lap thing before. You-you sit in it???? And thatβs where the snuggles are??? I dunno sounds real fake.
oh so you *do* know how to sit in a lap
A misty winter Western Oregon forest. Two big leaf maples lean across the foreground, with conifers and other deciduous trees in the fog behind them. The deciduous trees are all empty of leaves but every branch and trunk is thick with bright green moss and ferns feather the upper side of the foreground trees. Even with the trees dormant everything is vivid and green and full of life.
I met a husky named Steve. Steve really likes the hip skritchies, if youβre wondering.
no you accidentally dressed like a pickle today
A snapshot of a small tortoiseshell cat with blue eyes. She is standing with her tail and ears in a slightly annoyed attitude and a yellow stuffed toy in her mouth. Thatβs her Birb, and if you squint it is bird shaped. Not pictured, the volume on this girl. (Slightly muffled by Birb).
Tess says we should all show more appreciation when she songs the song of her people.
Thinking about how I got my first field job because a grad student needed a nice white person in their car for safety in case of border patrol. Like almost 20 years ago. For no particular reason.
turns out that if you ski uphill before you ski downhill your legs are double tired
There is finally snow in the mountains!
the non-standard ducks require more effort than an phone camera to get photos of, alas.
three mallards, two male, one female, swim on a lake. The sun catches on the iridescent green feathers on the heads of the males. You can see their orange feet underwater. leafless trees make wriggling reflections on the water.
kind of amazing how beautiful the bog standard duck is
a black and white photo of a Pacific Northwest Forest in rare winter sun. The sun backlights thick moss on leafless big leaf maples. long tree shadows stretch down the trail, which is lined by sword fern.
There was a sunshine, I had to take a dramatic photo of it.
I will!
I updated the ID in iNat, so crossing my fingers. Thank you again!
Oh, thank you! Iβve been checking iNaturalist hoping someone would provide a better ID for this friend with no luck, so you kinda made my day, haha!
If it were Collybiopsis, would it have had a stem? (That kind of looks to be the case?).
the same white mushroom growing on a mossy tree trunk, seen from above. It has a wavy, parachute-like appearance, and is catching the sunlight.
another angle of the same white mushroom on a mossy tree trunk. from the side, it looks a little like a bat wing. The sun catches the moss.
South Puget Sound area (western Washington) in an old growth-ish forest. I didnβt record what it was growing on, so my best guess is live Douglas fir? No stem that I saw, but here are some less good photos in case they are helpful!
a white mushroom grows on a mossy tree. It resembles a tiny little parachute (itβs common name), and sunlight glows through it.
what up weird mushroom walks?
(iNaturalist suggests Collybiopsis spp. but that is unconfirmed by human and I donβt know my fungi).
a small tortoiseshell cat crouches on a stack of homemade protest again. She is looking at another sign, with a portrait of her sitting a looking bite-y. In large letters it says βTRANS RIGHTS or I bites!β
Tess would like to tap the sign again
A portrait of a black cat with yellow eyes. He is laying on his side on a quilt-covered lap, with his head turned toward the person he is sitting on. His eyes are a little squinted, so he looks both mischievous and affectionate. He is clearly making a very persuasive argument for the human to not go to work today.
The morning sit in
a small tortoiseshell cat stands partially on a red mushroom scratching post and partially on a chair arm to better get into your face. Her pupils are very wide, and she looks to the side, ready for mischief. she is very soft. (she is now playing with a pompom, in fact).
maβam you are very cute
A small blue-eyed tortoiseshell cat stands on the back of a chair and stretches her face so far toward you that half if it is out of the frame. She has an alert, curious, and friendly expression and she holds her tail up in a confident manner. She wants to know how you feel about mischief, because she is in need of a partner in crime.
A lot of things are terrible and I canβt do a lot about them. Anyway, maybe you too need something small and playful to boop you with her soft little snoot.
(she is currently trying to pummel her brother)
Hello, yes, I would like to request one scream into the void, please?
Well well well, they also got the monkshood right.
Not me rewinding the silly mystery tv show 5 times just to see if that plant they called a Penstemon actually was.
(Shockingly, yes! Good work silly mystery!)
Yuri has two pounds on his sister but she just pinned him to the floor real good. Heβs complaining about it now. (Unfortunately for him, the only manager of Tess is Tess).
