A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

mother, minister, muser, mentor, merry, mischievous, mellow, now more cowbell. She/her. Opinions mine. And now with more pronouns. Because I believe people should be able to choose. And I believe it is basic politeness to refer to people as they ask.

We should definitely all be a lot more angry about data collection and storage. By governments and corporations.
What the headlines miss is the genuine heartbreak and hard decisions made by so many Canadians who have relatives and very close friends in the US. So many feel the only way to support is by staying away. The only way to defend our home is to stay away.
Families and friends are being torn apart.
Me trying real hard to not get frustrated and angry that the possible destruction of all life on earth wasn't enough incentive and just taking allies where I can get them/being happy that people are calling for a swift transition away from fossil fuels
βmore than ever, going big on renewable energy makes sense, financially and from a national security perspective.β

New: we've found a dozen instances in which misreads by Flock's license plate cameras, or lack of verification by officers, resulted in people who hadn't committed crimes being stopped at gunpoint, sent to jail, or mauled by a police dog, among other outcomes. www.businessinsider.com/flock-safety...
After revelations that companies like Ring have been selling home security footage to ICE, the most common defense of keeping a camera up seems to be, βBut what if Iβm stalked?β
And as a violence researcher, Iβm just here to state for the record that police do not care about your security footage.
This is why I wish transit allowed e-bikes. There is a nasty hill that is beyond me on a regular bike but would be joy on an ebike. And make transit a much better option for my commute.

Deluded people who believe in the idea of surviving a nuclear war are in charge of most of the money and all of us.

What preceded this is either awesome or horrific.
This feels like something The Righteous Gemstones would have sold.
There were multiple collisions and severe injuries during the qualifying runs too, several athletes stretchered off the course and taken to the hospital. It was an absolute mess. Itβs bad enough to have iffy courses for any athlete, but when you have physically disabled athletes, itβs negligence.
This is exactly right!
So they are people then?
You do recognize they are human.
And you just want to blow them up?
This is madness
There is truth to this.
I love my ev.
Still a car.
Still a commute.
Still would rather take the bus if it was reliable and convenient.
An entire administration that thinks logging off for 30 min makes everything go away
A post on X from the betting platform Polymarket that says βBREAKING: Anthropic CEO says Claude may or may not have gained consciousness, as the model has begun showing symptoms of anxiety.β
Literally as Iβm arguing with someone about whether AI companies are misleading people into believing their technology possesses God-like super-intelligence I see this monstrosity
Unbelievably smooth looking beige and peach bird with black eye mask and jaunty head crest is perched on a bare twig look intensely at something. The weekend?
Looking forward to the weekend like

This sounds similar to something in the Lord of the Rings. Gandalf I think.
Huib Petersen, an artist who lives on this block, is the artist responsible for these awesome crocheted creatures. www.petersenarts.com
I love the positivity. I do.
But it can get in the way of necessary introspection and growth sometimes.
"you need to learn how to use gAI or you'll get left behind!"
counterpoint!
the absolute fastest way to render yourself unemployable is to build your skillset around a tool that does your thinking for you, that everyone has access to, and that one company can change or take away at any time
This is against the notion of repentance. Genuine contrition requires a change of heart or behaviour. His wife changed. He did not. He hasnβt acknowledged his part at all. This is just straight up gas lighting and bullying dressed up as piety.
βOne of the saddest lessons of history is this: If weβve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. Weβre no longer interested in finding out the truth...Itβs simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that weβve been taken."

The intentional inversion of the meaning of this song strikes me as perverse. A small thing in the bigger picture, but, in an environment of lies and moral inversion, it feels noteworthy.
A lot of people say AI isn't very good for the world and its outputs are routinely unreliable, but these haters fail to see how it's revolutionizing how we incinerate schoolchildren.
