My I present the #3 best seller in World of Darkness and coincidentally, my favorite World of Darkness book
Step 1: buy the book from not Amazon. (call your FLGS or local bookstore and ask if they have it! If they don't many will order it for you!)
Step 2: review it on Amazon so that publisher daddy is proud of us
Step 3: fall down a rabbit hole re: Amazon's very weird games categorization lists
My heel turn will actually be cutting promos on all the other villains in the space insisting that I am worse with no feats to back it up.
I cannot express enough how important this is to our success. Just a rating is great and a full review is amazing!
Hey heroes!
@superdillin.bsky.social and I have a new book out. I'm very proud of it and I want it to do well.
You can help by buying a copy, but you can help even more by leaving a review! Yes, on Amazon. Evening you didn't buy it there.

Absolutely stellar choices!
It's bizarre how they make their decisions.
I'm currently trying to do a sequel to Campfire Cards which was a huge hit.
@systemmastery.bsky.social have sold almost 200k (maybe 250k) across their cook/drink book line had a pitch rejected because "beer isn't doing well right now
They truly just want to do ideas everyone else has done a thousand times and market research sniffs out new trends like blood in the water.
This is why I emphasize support everyone who has broken through. If the folks over at Dover are doing well, it means a Simon or Random House imprint might pick up a project helmed by a designer who is new to them.
And when someone gets a deal everyone should bang pots and pans to support them.
That is why the pool of designers for the micro RPG Book was a mix of big names and people who needed attention.
I have pitched many POC designers who I admire and even co-authored pitches hoping to get them through the door. Even when convince my editor, so many concepts fall before the board.
It truly depends on who writes the history.
I am curious about the comics side of things!
Yeah it is very funny that you Jon and I are the top shadowrun authors of the decade.
This is not "real professional scale" this is "nonsense corporate distribution scale."
It's like mega-damage in RIFTS. 1=100 the numbers are arbitrarily higher because trad pubs can go through door we can't even knock on.
All this and CCK only sold around 700 units so far.
I'm not familiar with it! My googling is just getting me a video game.
Oh how I would *love* to have you AD for a collection like that.
I totally get that. You're right that the important thing is making the thing.
The comparisons especially in this arena are just nonsense.
I can only imagine what wanderhome looks like if it's on shelves at Target.
Right, but keep in mind this is going to Barnes & Noble. If Jay's books were distributed that way I'd wager they would have sold a ton more.
I have *something* to do with my success, but not everything. If other people had my distribution, they would also sell more.
And because it has mainstream distribution all the numbers as just silly.
It's not so much the risks they take as how they assess risk.
They want to see that several other people in their space and similar are succeeding with analogous products.
They invested alot in Micro RPG but the simpler Backstory Book outsole it over 6:1.
And that is *without* trad pub distribution, which is so important!
When is your publish date and do you have a pre-order page up yet?
If we did 13k in the first year (like a big KS) then S&S would have seen it as a hit.
But if you compare it to books like Blades in the Dark or Thirsty Sword Lesbians (two huge hits) my low and mid selling projects are in the same range.
Unimaginable success is where they *start* seeing viability.
We band together and make it big.
You don't need astronomical numbers to keep getting work. You need them to have leverage to do things the way you want.
Also this thread is mostly about just my imprint. Keith has different good and bad experiences.
I cannot believe the shit you deal with. At your scale it's absurd.
Perfect timing. I forgot I pre-ordered this. I just started world building for a new campaign in four months. This will be a tremendous help building the baddies. Thanks @oneshotrpg.bsky.social and @superdillin.bsky.social !
Buy the books, post them on socials, leave reviews on goodreads and Amazon.
If you want to see it, make it a trend, because the corporations will chase it. And artists like me will get stable income as a side effect.
