Update re: news coverage in Europe (UK bit)….. the apparent murder of Alex Pretti has horrified people in my local circle. BBC news reporting with some caution. Sky News been more direct as has The Guardian in terms of it being an unacceptable action by ICE.
Indeed she is. The News Agents podcast is really good overall and all 3 presenters really bring something. I don’t always agree with the takes (of course), but it’s some solid journalism with a bit of “access to unknown sources”! They’ve had to return from Minneapolis to warm up for a bit.

Done a very rambling bit of agreement! In another life I worked with some folks who just wanted to physically win and dominate and totally did not accept that de-escalation was a thing or that maybe our behaviour contributed to shit going down.
As part of working with very distressed people I’ve needed to learn at various times how to keep them, others and me safe. UK and healthcare so guns admittedly not a factor. But 80% of training is avoiding any of that physical stuff. At all. I wonder what happens on that training …..
I have seen the good station people using this ramp AND securing the lugs I assume.
Ramp at a disheveled train station lent on a walk with “secure lugs” written loudly on the sides.
Wheelchair access is amazing - if you can secure the lugs - but you can’t just have a ramp against a wall and not use it. And that’s what not using Alt text is.
Honestly it is one of the easiest things to do to at least APPEAR to be inclusive. I fail regularly at other bits of inclusivity that haven’t occurred to me. Sorry folks. But this is such an easy thing to sort.
I also learned recently that not only can you force bluesky to make you do alt text, but its like 2 or 3 button clicks. Piss easy. I know cuz i enabled it so i cant poast unless i put fucking something there but point is, its there and its easy if you actually want to do it but most people dont?!
I am chaos at various times - but this is a very easy thing to do. And also fun if you’re putting a cute or funny picture. Add a bit of extra chat! Catchy poster type stuff - often AWFUL to read for people with visual impairment and should also have alt text anyway.
