If icebox pie had been invented today, it would just be called refrigerator pie.

No offense to the other sports, but golf and womenβs basketball just have the best storylines these days.
Used to be baseball and college football, but alas, the vampires of half-billion dollar payrolls have taken baseball and NIL threatens the same.
This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell.
This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldnβt find itβ¦so donβt RT right now this very second.
Wouldnβt a βleftβ or βrightβ orientation at least bring the nomenclature up to the, say, 15th century?
Perhaps web based publications change this back, but the reproducible product on which academic publishing, even digital, is still based is the bound volume.
Hereβs an academic shower thought: when writers use the terms βaboveβ and βbelowβ in their manuscripts to refer to things that came before or after in the text, they are using a βscroll-basedβ mindset. I canβt think of anyone who has used a scroll since Kerouac wrote βOn the road.β
Teaching my son an important life lesson this morning: how to use the remote control.
Many moons ago, I worked as a teller in a bank for a short time while I was βbetween things.β I was unhappy, for sure, but the moment I knew I had to quit was when I learned that they made all their manager-trainees read βThe Fountainhead.β
We got thundersnow last night. Thundersnow and the Northern Lights in the same 12-month period. Pretty coolβ¦also, probably terrifying because Iβm sure itβs due to climate change and weβre all gonna die.
Well, if Luka is out of Dallas, I might as well make the migration to Pacers fandom. Iβd been holding out for Dallas, but seems like they are currently taking a hiatus from winning. And no way Iβm rooting for LA.
Me, when my toddler children attempt to βhelpβ me make PB&J sandwiches:
βI alone can fix it!β
Scene from The Princess Bride where Vizzinni says "You're trying to kidnap what I've rightfully stolen"
OpenAI right now
My philistine take for today is that I feel about David Lynch films/shows kindβve how I feel about defense attorneys. I donβt understand the appeal, but Iβm glad somebody does the job.
Iβm using 2025 to work through some themes in the history of Christian doctrine. Iβm hoping it to be the notes and sketches for a future lay-level project.

Bluesky feels different only in that it feels familiar. Itβs Twitter circa 2012-mid-2016, a period of time Iβll probably tell my kids was the good ole times.
The rise and fall of TikTok marked, for me, the moment I keenly felt the onset of a middle-aged mind-set. A huge social trend I did not care about, didnβt try to care about or understand, never signed up for, donβt care itβs gone, hope it all just stays off my lawn.
How itβs going:
Historically, has there ever been a wider gap in competency between one stateβs two senators than currently exists in Alabama?
Gather round kids and let me tell you a story about a real technology ban...
Composite picture showing busts of nine people each wearing an elaborate hat and also supporting impressive moustaches
It's #NationalHatDay! Here's some excellent headwear (and moustaches) from an album of 19th-century Ottoman fashion. More here: publicdomainreview.org/collection/1...
What looks to be a human figure crouched draped in a furry animal skin with large horns protruding from the head area
On St Knutβs Day, January 13th, Finns take to the streets dressed as βnuuttipukitβ (draped in goat skins and horns) to procure beer and leftovers after Christmas. Photographs from 1928 of the folk tradition here: publicdomainreview.org/collection/n... #onthisday
Now that my 5 year old is *really* into Transformers, Iβm impressed with the amount of world-building that went completely over my head when I was 5 and *really* into Transformers. Itβs more than met my eye.
βNo, no, no.β
Daria is weirdly fascinating. How the absolute pinnacle of evil in 1996 is apparently people being superficial and failing upwards. Where boredom is the worst hardship teens face.
How cute for you. How nice. Let me show you 2025! Don't look away. Take it in. The screaming will stop eventually.
This is going to be my blue sky accountβ¦big academic words, followed by random early-middle-age-dad thoughts, followed by dog pictures.
Come for the church and theology, stay for things I just remembered about a movie I saw 15 years ago and whatever bandana I put on my golden doodle.
Also, itβs funny to think how all the big projects from βEntourageβ became actual popular films. βNarcos,β βFerrari,β and βAquamanββall were Vincent Chase blockbusters before they went through the looking glass to our world.
Entourage told the future and we were too self-important to listen.
Itβs crazy that the new Bob Dylan movie is getting such good reviews. When I first heard about it, my mind immediately recalled the season of βEntourageβ where Vince just *has* to play Enzo Ferrari in a low-budget biopic. I just assume thatβs what Hollywood is like.
Dang, have been using the wrong hashtag. Itβs #ASCH2025. Thatβs the most early-middle-aged-dad thing Iβve done in like, at least four hours.
Your paper this morning was excellent. Going home to see if I can fit a Theodore Parker source into an American religion course this spring!
Academic conference serendipity is when you attend a panel outside your specialty because you accidentally went to the wrong room and got boxed in your row, so itβs too difficult/embarrassing to slip out, but it ends up being the most interesting panel so far. #ASCH
