Excited to share this international collaboration led by @merrimanniamh.bsky.social I could be part of, recently published in #EurGeriatrMed. How do hip fracture audits collect data on #delirium and #cognition?
Insights that will help improve #HipFracture care.
Link in thread below.
Enjoy!!

While most identified HFRs recommended delirium and/or cognitive assessment, there was considerable variation in methods of assessment and documentation.
Greater standardisation in data items and their collection could improve international comparability and patient care.
Key findings:
- 22 eligible HFRs were identified
- 64% collected delirium assessment data
- 82% collected cognitive assessment data
- Heterogeneity in recommended delirium and cognitive assessment tools (although 50% recommended the 4AT), cut-off scores, and tool completion and positive score rates.

New research alert!
π’Published in #EuropeanGeriatricMedicine, this @hrbireland.bsky.social-funded scoping review examined #delirium and #cognitiveassessment data items currently collected by national #hipfracture registries (HFRs).
(2/2) Delirium assessment on initial presentation is feasible using an easy-to-implement tool such as the 4AT (the4AT.com).
This should be standard care for all patients presenting with a hip fracture @amaclullich.bsky.social @gerisoc.bsky.social @antonyjohansen.bsky.social
(1/2) Published today: our study in >18000 hip fracture patients using national clinical registry data: boneandjoint.org.uk/Article/10.130β¦
- Delirium is prevalent, affecting 21% of hip fracture patients at time of presentation
-associated with higher mortality, less likely to return home again
