Went for an early Saturday morning run along some inner Portland arterials. So eye opening to spend time on normally heavily trafficked streets when they are empty. The impact on the air, noise levels and fear in of heavy hit by cross traffic is profound.

Just published: Our eval of bike buses in Portland. Some key benefits we IDed are increases in physical activity and improved traffic safety / navigation skills. Challenges include institutionalizing bike buses and making sure benefits can be shared equitably.

This is a big deal. Spread the word. But it’s tiny compared to the totality of what’s happening at NIH. Cure Research for all cancers, Alzheimer’s, everything is being gutted. Intentionally. It’s all getting burned to the ground but the news isn’t getting out. The new cures won’t be there for you.

I didn't quite realize the degree to which the number of trips per day has been on a downward trajectory, and then took a further leap with the pandemic. From 1995 to 2022 the average trip rate dropped from 4.3 to 2.28, with half that drop coming between 2017 and 2022.
There should be a function that, when I mute my TV, automatically shifts the audio to some nice background music of my choice. Does that exist? If not, why not?

Findings - low conflicts, bicyclists slowed in the presence of buses and people, people generally managing interactions even when not strictly following design intent.
