A lot of people say AI isn't very good for the world and its outputs are routinely unreliable, but these haters fail to see how it's revolutionizing how we incinerate schoolchildren.

People talk about this stuff in terms of how much it'll suck for gaming and I hate to inform you how many MRI machines, X-Rays, all sorts of other vital machinery are just a Windows IoT Edition PC in a beige plastic box with a big magnet/accelerator/whatever attached.

AI does not enhance โ€œefficiency.โ€ AI is a permission structure for a totalizing regime of austerity and labor immiseration.

At least 10 people were injured between late 2021 and November 2025, according to the reports. Most allegedly involved errors in which the TruDi Navigation System misinformed surgeons about the location of their instruments while they were using them inside patientsโ€™ heads during operations.

Cerebrospinal fluid reportedly leaked from one patientโ€™s nose. In another reported case, a surgeon mistakenly punctured the base of a patientโ€™s skull. In two other cases, patients each allegedly suffered strokes after a major artery was accidentally injured.

In May 2023, Dean was using TruDi in another sinuplasty operation when patient Donna Fernihoughโ€™s carotid artery allegedly โ€œblew.โ€ Blood โ€œwas spraying all overโ€ โ€“ even landing on an Acclarent representative who was observing the surgery, according to a lawsuit Fernihough filed in U.S. District Court in Fort Worth against Acclarent and several manufacturers. One of Fernihoughโ€™s carotid arteries was damaged. She suffered a stroke the day of the surgery, according to her suit.

Acclarent โ€œknew or should have known that the purported artificial intelligence caused or exacerbated the tendency of the integrated navigation system product to be inconsistent, inaccurate, and unreliable,โ€ the suit alleges.

The FDA requires clinical trials for new drugs, but medical devices face different screening. Most AI-enabled devices coming to market arenโ€™t required to be tested on patients, according to FDA rules. Instead, makers satisfy FDA rules by citing previously authorized devices that had no AI-related capabilities, says Dr. Alexander Everhart, an instructor at Washington Universityโ€™s medical school in St. Louis and an expert on medical device regulation.

Iโ€™ve found it fascinating to watch over the past few years, as all humanities + social science disciplines have been forced to grapple with the politics of technology, so many are reinventing arguments media studies and STS have been making for decades :)

The stateโ€™s creation of the new textbook is the latest battle in Floridaโ€™s ongoing campaign to assert control over university curricula. State leaders have taken special pains to discredit the field of sociology, which the American Sociological Association defines as โ€œthe study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior.โ€

In 2023, the Florida Legislature passed Senate Bill 266, prohibiting general education courses from including topics that โ€œdistort significant historical events,โ€ teach โ€œidentity politicsโ€ or are โ€œbased on theories that systemic racism, sexism, oppression, and privilege are inherent in the institutions of the United States and were created to maintain social, political, and economic inequities.โ€

I was in a meeting recently where someone was wondering aloud about why sociology has faced more political scrutiny than econ and psych. And I think it's that sociology centers the social (i.e., systemic) causes of human outcomes, thus directly challenging the individualism on which fascism thrives.

Honestly nothing feels different here today at all. There are still ICE raids all over, they're still letting people out at Whipple into the cold with nothing, and like you said, people still need food and rent money.

just gonna throw out a quick reminder that in America police kill a yearly average of 3 civilians per day, routinely in situations very similar to these ICE killings, and decades of explicit support for police impunity by US politicians is why ICE feels theyre able to get away with this right now

they're executing moms and nurses in the street. they're using preschoolers as bait. they're stealing people's dads and grandmas and children. they're tear gassing babies. they're staking out schools. there is no remedy but abolition. any proposal that doesn't start there is an act of violence.

Abolish the Electoral College, Abolish ICE, restrain the Supreme Court, neutering/abolishing the Senate. These all are extremely variable in terms of possibility or immediacy of enactment but they're all vital to discuss seriously and with earnestness. How do we prevent things like today happening?

Excellent read. "You canโ€™t reform a concentration camp regime. You have to dismantle it and replace it. We have a thousand ways to do it. And most U.S. citizensโ€”particularly white onesโ€”have the freedom to act, for now, with far less risk than the many people currently targeted."

This is powerful footage because of what it depicts, but also because of the way the arrest interrupts our expectations of the on-the-street interview; which makes the arrest more shocking both for its brazenness and the way it impacts the viewer.

A Criminal Empire The United States launches a conquest and occupation of Venezuela to extract its oil wealth. The neocon dream is the America First dream

The kidnapping of Maduro inaugurates a highly dangerous era of U.S. empire that for perhaps the first time in an era of mass media is not pretending to be anything other than a violent, extractive enterprise of domination.

But we are neither a healthy democracy nor, I would argueโ€”given the end of our separation of powers and our rule of lawโ€”a democracy at all anymore

The president unilaterally decided to attack a sovereign nation and kidnap its leader, and now he says he's just going to run that county himself for a while too.

Call your representatives now and demand they impeach him.
