We are grateful for Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck who joined us in a very insightful and productive conversation. The LGBTQ Commission is excited to share more about how input from last night will help all involved work together in addressing the needs of our community.
These events will be quarterly, topical discussions to address pressing issues facing the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, where we will work to identify solutions and bring together the Commission's partner organizations and City entities to mobilize action.
Last night, the LGBTQ Commission's Community Outreach & Social Media Committee held the first of its Community Advocacy Meetings online and in-person at the Rainier Beach Library Branch.
An SPD officer said: βWe are going in guns blazing.β
Another: βWe are here to f*ck people up.β*
That is what preceded violence against LGBTQ protesters at Cal Anderson Park.
The LGBTQ Commission demands accountability. Minimal discipline is not justice. The community has every right to be angry.
The Commission spent today working on our 2026β2027 workplan. Weβre ready to move forward with deeper community-driven advocacy and empowerment!
More to come soon.

The LGBTQ Commission had the honor of receiving a proclamation on Trans Day of Remembrance from Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck. We remember those we've lost and we stand firm in the fight for safety, dignity, and justice for transgender individuals in our community.

The LGBTQ Commission + Womenβs Commission urge City Council to reject budget items expanding surveillance in neighborhoods like Capitol Hill.
More cameras + more RTCC staffing = more harm for vulnerable communities.
Weβre pushing for funds to go to community orgs, not more policing tools.
Come join the Commission at Louder Than Hate: Trans & Queer Joy as Resistance, hosted by our friends at Lavender Rights Project!
Statement from the Commission:
At last nightβs (08/21/2025) Commission meeting, an individual making public comment made statements that caused commissioners and community members to believe they may have had a weapon.
