Agreed, they shouldn’t feel like gimmicks so much

For me the lower episode count doesnt just make trend chasing egregious but the gimmicky nature of the episodes. Trend chasing that forwarded the show would be more forgivable than grinding to a halt to go remember Nancy Drew! Remember wired phones! Wouldnt it be whacky of everyone was a Vulcan?

And a desire to recreate the feel of that whole era within this one show, almost like WandaVision without the self restraint

Yes, this! This is exactly how I felt about the season. The musical was a one-off, now the gimmicks are a constant part the show.

And it doesn’t just feel like current trends to me but also a backwards looking nostalgia goggles view at older TV that would have been on the air alongside TOS, ->

I mostly agree with you but I’m also kind of sick of specifically SNW trying to be anything other than Star Trek and memberberry for every genre under the sun that was ever on TV

I completely agree with this, it’s what turns me off a lot of Bayverse deigns and overly humanized fan designs. I’ve kind of gotten to a point where I’m willing to sacrifice a degree of imaginative-ness for consistent “could be a toy in the real world” factor.

An art piece based off of Gustav Klimt’s piece The Kiss, where a man is embracing a woman by cradling her face with his hands and kissing her cheek, except the drawing is of Odo and Kira from DS9. It is a cacophony of colours and shapes, coming from the bottom there’s planets and stars that form into circles at Odo’s base that settle into squares on his torso. Kira’s jacket has patterned diamonds inside of them. There are tiny blue flowers dotting their faces and gently falling down onto the sky. They are surrounded by a soft dark blue and purple space with many stars and comets.
