Every few months I forget that posting more than super bland ephemera is almost always a mistake.
Questioned whether I was being too harsh and unmuted someone I'd muted ages ago for being mildly annoying in a "too cool for school" way only to re-mute them within a day because, no, I was not being harsh.

Specificity in a character makes them feel real and grounded, which then makes their emotional arc ALSO feel real and grounded, and thus... relatable. Additionally, it reinforces that so much of what we feel, what we struggle with, find purpose in, is universal.
The idea that blank slate characters are more relatable because people project themselves onto them is one of those just-so stories that refuses to die. It's the opposite! People relate to specificity!
People often choose between comfort and curiosity. If you're truly curious, you know you're going to be uncomfortable at some point because you're learning new things, but many people are so afraid of being uncomfortable, they prefer the illusion of comfort and the insulation it provides them.

I understand why chatbot cheating happens but every time I read about it I want to gently remind everyone that the point of schoolwork is not for the submission to exist. Teachers are not just greedy for more essays or solved equations. The point is to do the work WITH YOUR OWN BRAIN, FOR LEARNING.
I'm asking that we all raise our political expectations. We deserve good things.

I hope the complete lack of consequences re the Epstein files puts the nail in the coffin on the name and shame mentality that puts all the onus on victims who often face far dire consequences for speaking out.

If you want to, but as a requirement? I would say no. It’s a straight-forward narrative that doesn’t require you to already know the characters.
The opening scene was very jarring and off-putting for me, and it took me a bit but it’s definitely my kinda nonsense.
Also, some really wonderful performances.
This movie is very much not for everyone, and this in no way refutes the casting critique, but I kinda loved “Wuthering Heights”.
(If you want a realistic adaptation that is true to the book - this is not the film for you. If you’re into adaptations as stylized fever dreams and vibes, it may be.)
