If you have access to a 3D printer, you can find (or design!) inserts for your boxes to organize the smaller parts. I did that for 28mm miniatures a few years ago, and when I was designing those there were lots of "organization" practical models on Thingiverse I used for inspiration.

Asbestos is an incredibly useful material that's also horrendously dangerous.

Slop is an incredibly useless product that's also dangerous.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

I've yet to see a use for LLMs that comes anywhere close to being as useful as asbestos though.

We used asbestos in everything because it has so many useful properties in so many applications and a lot of the replacements aren't as good. (Lead free solder is still not quite as good, but, well...)

It's not that AI is useless.

It's that AI is useful like asbestos was useful.

As a programmer, I agree on the gist of your argument that blocking and ridiculing solves very little, but I completely disagree on the efficacy of these so-called coding LLMs.

The only successful cases I've seen are trivial or contrived.

If you are able to have Claude write 99% of your code, that is because your code is trivial or you simply do not care about the long-term of your project.

It is guaranteed that high usage of these tools will deteriorate one's ability to even judge whether one is deteriorating.

“I need it for —“ Shut up. You are worthless. You serve billionaire murderers and pedophiles. Learn to write an email on your own, you piglet.

The brainrot around upscaling and frame generation is insane. "smooth 120 FPS!!one!1!!".

Gen-AI stuff is seriously making me think we may never have a cultural grasp on objective reality again. I just saw people analyzing a marketing screenshot from an unreleased game, but they first upscaled it 8x. They then microanalyzed all the cool details. Details that DO NOT EXIST in the original!

the U.S. corporate press should really never be allowed to live down their failure without dramatic structural reform, ritual public humiliation, and genuine penance

the public ire directed at the brunchlord access press should be relentless

I know for fact that a significant portion of them are so utterly brain dead they legitimately believe that LLMs are magic intelligence that will do everything cheaper. Not JUST an excuse.

But these are largely recession/depression layoffs. Just with a convenient lie to tell.

these are unrepentant fascists

you have to throw all traditional belief structures in the toilet

even the idea that anybody competent is trying to control RFK Jr. to protect polling is an unconfirmed claim seeded to project competency they likely don't have

there's no reason to even write these stories because at this point it should be assumed all administration claims are unreliable

i always go back to the pandemic era study where white people were willing to mask and protect their neighbors, until they learned covid was disproportionately impacting Black people - then they stopped caring about others, which made white mortality rates spike to the top of the charts.

You don't get to paper over the fact that they are bigots. They knowingly wanted to strip minorities and women of any historical representation. They killed projects simply because they had ethnic identities and genders attached.

You are not going to get me to empathize with these grown men - Cavanaugh was 28, and Fox was 27 (they are 29, and 28 now IIRC)

You can argue they didn't know it was potentially criminal but even if what they were doing was legal it was steeped in bigotry. They don't get a pass on that.

Spending time talking to voters about how all of this predatory behavior is a symptom of our economy and laws being rigged to benefit corporations and the wealthy seems like a really easy messaging win to me.

And that was management greed, not that these things are that capable. I get to daily put up with wishcasting about Claude, and showing people how it failed them, while they allow the slop machine to atrophy their skills and critical thinking. Bubble can't pop fast enough.

It's pretty much all "AI washing". It's a convenient excuse.

It's only a danger due to foolish management. It is still truly terrible at things outside its training data, but nevermind that because the stuff is deeply unethical and unprofitable. The sooner it can finish mostly going the way of NFTs and the other hype waves the better.

As smarter people have said, the thing these freaks of the Trump administration fear the most is being laughed at or mocked.

These awful men deserve to have their reputations damaged considering the damage they've done to millions.

Look at all the money shoved into this garbage. The environment impacts. The societal impacts. How most of its proponents are legitimately some of the most horrific people. The juice is not worth the squeeze, even if you set aside the ethical considerations. And you shouldn't set aside those. Nope

I find it particularly galling that the reactionary tech oligarchs currently vying to control the world have been talked into fascism by a guru who is one of the dumbest people ever to place one letter after another. bsky.app/profile/seth...
