The other two are… not social the same way. Lady Hiss will cuddle, but she’s shy still. I’m not convinced Furret has figured out laps yet.

A close-up of a white cat lying on a lap. Only the perspective shows you he’s on a lap.
A white cat lying on a lap, glancing up at the person taking the photo.
A cat lying stretched out over a person’s legs and torso. One of his legs is stretched out along the arms of the chair.
Look at him. He’s so precious. His belly is not a trap. Now he’s stopped attacking me at the top of the stairs, he’s sweetness itself.
I NEED IT SO BAD 😭
Nooooooooo! 😭 Sir Hiss is a drooling cuddler. 😭😭😭
This would be fine, except I’m allergic to cat drool. 😭

Happy book day!!!
New toy unlocked: hair ties I didn’t put away. 🫠
A white cat comfortably lying in a chair beside a human. You cannot see all of the human because the photo is from their angle.
He was making biscuits. (Ignore the pile of clothes behind him; the cats are still learning they’re not allowed in the closet.) Isn’t he so precious?
I'm gathering people's thoughts about mental health and speculative fiction through an online survey. I'd be very grateful if you could take 10 minutes to share your reflections on Inner Worlds and why it mattered to you, or on speculative fiction more broadly ❤️

Lastly, this isn’t exactly cat equipment, but: a good lint roller & if they’ll have access to any computer-contained spaces unsupervised, a keyboard-cover to put over it when not in use will help reduce them pressing on the keys AND reduce cat hair getting stuck between the mechanisms.
(Those may be more expensive if you want to throw ALL the litter out each time, but they can help significantly. Oh! And a metal scoop. The plastic ones will break in no time at all, especially if you use pee-clotting litter to make that easier to scoop out.)
If getting a litter mat: I found the hard plastic ones easiest. They still get messy, but they’re a lot more cleaning-friendly than the floppy kind, ime.
It may also be worth looking at… idk what they’re called but they’re bags you put the litter in so you can easily empty and clean the whole box.
If you have a space for them on a window sill (or multiple ones), something soft for them to lie on can be really nice. It doesn’t have to be a thick cat pillow (ours rarely liked them). It can be an old towel or a small faux sheepskin or an old pillow cover or something too.
Probably more useful: I’d personally recommend against a two-piece plastic carrier if possible because a stressed-out cat can kick it apart anf break the hinges. It’s very unlikely, but if you have options… worth considering. Most of my previous cats found a cloth carrier less stressful, but ymmv.
(Also since people have mentioned contradicting things: if it sounds like something the current people would know: don’t hesitate to ask them about it. You’ll save yourself a bunch of trial and error purchases and, while I suspect it won’t happen, some people go radio silent after the cats arrive.)
Perhaps silly to suggest, but: ask the people currently looking after the cats about their preferences if you haven’t yet. Food and litter brand are most helpful, but getting what they’re used to at first will at least ensure you won’t worry they’re, say, not eating enough while you get to know them
But also, Furret is still scared of big moving things, and she was making biscuits beside the chair for a little while.
And then I had to tell off Lady Hiss and Furret because they don't get on and the poor baby startled away.
Noooooooooo! Sir Hiss was like "Lap snuggles, pls" and I DID NOT HAVE MY PHONE NEARBY.
Front an back covers of By Your Side: The First 100 Years of Yuri Anime and Manga by Erica Friedman. The front shows two girls wearing the oldest Japanese girls schools uniforms, looking longingly at one another as they hold hands, surrounded by lilies, a pattern which burns away to reveal a back cover of two girls with brightly colored hair and uniforms of the future, gleefully clasping one another.
Just a reminder that I wrote a book on the history of the Yuri genre which was then published by the wonderful publisher @journeypress.bsky.social, which you should definitely buy and support us both!

This is so pretty!
Right?!
Penelope deserves all the triumphs. All of them.
You know she wants attention because when she does it ANYWHERE ELSE she runs over to you at the speed of zoomies.
Dear Furret, please stop asking for attention from under the bed. You know I’m not scary, so just ask for pets somewhere I can physically reach you. Love, me.
So happy to hear that! Fingers crossed for the best possible news Thursday.
A book cover with the title “Children of Owl” and a girl looking up at a mountain with an owl boy prominent in the background.
CHILDREN OF OWL HAS A COVER!!!! With art by Abigail Rajunov, who also illustrated 25 pages of comics in the book. It was an honor to work with her; I couldn’t be happier!! 🥹💕
