The Iconic Civil Rights Protest You Don't Know | American Experience | PBS
Meet the protesters who crawled their way into history—and changed how all Americans live.
Today is the 36th anniversary of the Capitol Crawl and disabled people are still fighting for basic rights in a society that's actively working to undermine them, surrounded by systemic disablism.
(This is a corrected thread TY to the person who flagged that I said 26th, not 36th!)

Had to call customer service and was greeted by the most joyful human who also promptly resolved my issue. Thanks, Chasta (no idea how to spell your name but anyway).

An low-level aerial view of the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant. The ripples on the water at top left and bottom center are the rapidly approaching tsunami.
An astonishing color photograph taken from atop a nearby low-rise building showing dark, angry-looking ocean water overtopping a breakwater along a Japanese highway and rapidly flooding the roadway and submerging multiple vehicles.
A screenshot from a live television image of a large, dark cloud rising in the distance from the remains of one of the Fukushima reactor buildings following a powerful hydrogen explosion.
An overhead satellite view of the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant showing three of the six reactor buildings clearly destroyed by hydrogen explosions.
OTD 15 yrs ago, the massive Tōhoku earthquake in Japan (magnitude 9-9.1) triggered a 15-meter tsunami that killed 19,747 people, injured 6,242, and left 2,556 missing. It also swamped and ultimately led to the meltdown and total destruction of three of the six Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant reactors.

Making Numbers in Web Content Accessible - Vispero
Numbers are a key part of web content. It makes sense, then, that when we use numbers, they must be accessible.
Some people have disabilities that are directly based on the way they understand and interpret numbers. In this post, Ricky Onsman explains some of these disabilities, who is affects and how, and what web creators can do about it.

I may be late for #showMeYourKnits lace but am slowly working on this shawl. I didn't think I'd be able to manage this thin yarn but am very happy to find I could! #crochet 🧶

Ha first time as an editor that I've encountered a non-breaking hyphen in the text. Impressed that the authors took the time to use it. #AmEditing #Edibuddies

Grammarly's presentation of something they call Expert Review, including my name (plus Stephen King's, plus Mary Norris's), though to be sure I've never been contacted by Grammarly, much less compensated.
What in the absolute fuck is this.

Text on an academic article about "Moving Things: Moving Cartloads of Treasures from Venice to Ethiopia, ca. 1400" pasted into Grammarly in a Browser. It offers to invoke the digital ghosts of David Abulafia, Barry Flood and Chris Wickham to give me "expert feedback".
Using Grammarly for the first time in forever ... WHAT?
As a non-native speaker writing primarily in English, I used to use it to check prepositions, point out too long/convoluted sentences etc.
It now offers to summon colleagues both living and dead to "expert review" the piece???
What?

- contextualized ("a contextualized overview")
I understand the intent behind the word, but I find it meaningless. Is it possible to create an overview (in this example) that does not consider context? #AmEditing #PlainLanguage

When writing alt text, ask yourself if you would picture an approximation of the image if it was described to you over the phone using the alt text you've written. Doing that exercise can be a good way to determine if you're on the right track.

Google Ngrams: Democrat-appointed, Democratic-appointed, 1800-2022
"Democrat-appointed" sounds more natural to me than "Democratic-appointed" and Perplexity agreed, but N-gram shows that "Democratic-appointed" is more commonly used. Recognizing what to check and where is one of the many skills editors need 💡 #AmEditing #Edibuddies books.google.com/ngrams/graph...
