Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Walk Bike Berkeley: Hopkins Teach-In. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting. When Hopkins is repaved, it should receive pedestrian, bicycle, and transit improvements consistent with Council-approved plans and policies. Bicycle improvements should provide low stress connections...

Hopkins Street is back, but the news isn’t good. A new proposal would pave the street without previously-approved bicycle and transit improvements.

Learn more at our Hopkins Teach-In on Monday, March 9 at 7-8pm (virtual).

Take the survey! Tell the City to charge for street parking on evenings and Sundays. Managing street parking in commercial areas to ensure parking availability benefits all road users.

Local dad still unconscious after being hit in Berkeley crosswalk "He might wake up tomorrow or he might wake up in a month. It's hard to predict," his brother, Luis Soto, told The Scanner.

EXCLUSIVE: For Luis Soto, it all began with a mysterious voicemail from Highland Hospital saying his younger brother, Diego, might have been admitted. When he finally got through, the news was horrific. "I'm praying every day," he told us. "All the friends and family are praying for Diego."

The attacks on everyday people in the streets of Minneapolis betray the values of safe, thriving communities. These aren't isolated tragedies: they're the result of a system that treats public space as a battleground and our neighbors as expendable.

Thanks everyone who acted! As we requested, the proposal to pave Hopkins without bike or transit improvements was referred to Council’s infrastructure committee, which will hopefully modify it before it goes to full Council. More to come!

Hopkins is an incredibly important street for Berkeley and surrounding cities. It’s a destination and critical for school access.

It would be a huge loss for Berkeley to pave Hopkins without making it safe for ALL users, including people walking and rolling.

Increasing housing opportunities & density around San Pablo Avenue is a great thing. But doing so w/o simultaneously providing better access, safety, & service for public transit, biking, & walking is dangerous. New residents make transportation decisions based on what's available when they move in.
