This is the best lede I've seen in a tech story in...years? There should be an award just for ledes.

These are so cuuuute π₯Ή aaa it makes me happy
I figure at some point they (historians) will retroactively state when it started. Probably through some kind of consensus. Right?
A screenshot of a tumblr ask from an anonymous user. They write, βYour art always seems to touch me when I really need it - been so incredibly depressed for no discernible reason (so nothing seems to improve it), hard to feel much, but flipping through your comics finally got me to have a much needed cry. I love you. Thank you for everything you shareβ A comic follows: "...MOMENTS EARLIER..." Emma is struggling to draw on her tablet. "ugh I'm having such a hard time drawing lately. everything i try to make always turns out so SHITTY." Emma yells, breaking her stylus, "AUGGHHH WHY DO I EVEN BOTHER MAKING ANYTHING???????????" Emma looks defeated, but is distracted by a notification on her phone. "what? a tumblr ask? what could anyone possibly have to say to a worm like me?" (tiny: Emma pauses to read and then cries)
thanks anon I needed that, i hope youβre feeling a little better
the targeting of any art that is "obscene" (terms of obscenity always to be decided at a whim) is fascistic yes but also how the only kinds of art that tends to be penalized is the individual/independent creators isn't lost on me. a patreon TOS would reject anything that can be streamed on netflix.
So thatβs that, right? We donβt have to put up with endless drivel about how expensive it is to save the planet abd ourselves ever again? Cool.
A screenshot of Spirit City: Lofi Sessions showing the train DLC and a little slider to control "Train Speed" and "Train motion"
Omg this game even has toggles to reduce motion sickness you guysss!!!
Neocities is so inspiring. The indie web is still so exciting.
What if we all could dedicate luxurious time to making weirdo little websites, how beautiful the internet could be

Anyway. I'm reminded of that game today for no particular reason.
So the button you're supposed to press is now like hanging down off one hinge and you have to carefully hold it up to press it in time, and ooze is dripping out of of the Florbinator making the toggle sticky and you can't even read the prompts through the static. Just keep doing your best!!...
And you would give each other orders based on prompts and then acted on prompts... but meanwhile the ship is getting damaged and the console is getting harder and harder to use...
There was this great mobile game called "SpaceTeam" where you and your friends joined on local wifi and it gave you all a little "console" where you had ridiculous little tasks like "Set Discombobulator to Maximum" or "Engage the Florbinator" or whatever...
This story is a really comprehensive overview of what we know about what books have been pulled from Alberta libraries.
It also includes this stunning stat β despite having less than 1/8 of Canadaβs population, Alberta accounted THREE QUARTERS of all Canadian book challenges last year
PANEL 1: A FRIEND showing MATTIE a big canvas. FRIEND: Hey check out this art i bought. I think it's incredible. MATTIE: Uhh. What is it? PANEL 2: reverse shot, you can see it's just an enormous black dot on a canvas. FRIEND: It's the aggregate of all human creative output, in the totality of recorded history, averaged out and then printed on this canvas! PANEL 3: Shot from panel 1. MATTIE just kind of stares at the friend. FRIEND: I can see you think I'm stupid. Would an IDIOT spend 14 billion dollars on it? Hmm? FRIEND: Would an IDIOT have been MOVED TO TEARS by this? PANEL 4: Same shot, two people walk by, looking amazed. P1: Wow, the computers are getting so good! P2: We'll be replaced any day now!

Managed to catch "Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die" before it left and DAMN, what a good movie.
If you like Black Mirror and Everything Everywhere All At Once you'd probably enjoy it. Cathartic and fun
hard agree π
In about an hour, weβre going to save daylight for the last time ever. Daylight is free, now. We will never capture and save it in a box again.
It looks really good btw (they painted A Wall)
"It took me an extra three hours before I could sleep just absorbing the fact that Something In The House Had Changed"
"Jam why are you so tired today"
"Well you see, someone *else* did a lot of work in my house yesterday... I didn't do anything, but it disrupted a precarious assemblage of conditions that maintains my functionality"
I visited a friend at a convention and after two hours I had to go home and had to lie down, barely conscious for four hours so maybe I need to reassess if I'm ready to do shows again lol
i love this comic sooooo much
this is also my strategy.

This argues that we should not give away our creative industries' output to US tech companies.
It seems obvious when you say it, doesn't it.
For the record, this is basically what Red Dwarf is.
