...They are beautiful, the sailors say, they come to me and they say, sir we've never seen anything this nice sir...back at the college, it's the old ships, the old ships sir. I said gold, Gold boys. So the golden fleet, they hit it with DEADLY HYPERSONIC MISSILES, they've sunk it...

...Obama...haha that's right folks. Obama, he wanted sad ships. Little sad electric ships, with electric motors, phwah. We don't need that in America...we've always done big. We've done metal. So our ships will be beautiful...

"They said it couldn't be done folks, they said the missiles were too fast, they'd fly right past. Well our boys, our brave, beautiful ships. They're beautiful aren't they folks, we had them redesigned. The Golden Fleet folks, solid gold...

Really does have the vibe of that late-game "I can do what I want" phase where you'll invade your longest-term ally for two aluminium tiles

taking a moment for empathetic introspection as I initially thought this was in relation to the (relatively petty) complaint that you have to pay for Nintendo's online Pokemon storage, before realising you meant the plight of the little wild animals shoved into an unfamiliar dimensional prison

Getting some flashbacks to myself and my siblings as children on summer holidays at the market in Listowel, where my mam would purchase a tub of butter and some cheddar cheese for the bemused Crêpe-stall man (who was from Paris) so that he could make us "dinner pancakes".

My own (likely flawed!) intuition is that we still heavily underestimate both the fragility of the model's internal representations (it's sophisticated enough to defy algorithmic verification now), and the frequency with which reality presents novel (although seemingly similar) examples/phenomena!

I think at this point I need this show to return, but focus exclusively on large transformer models

Incredibly so, and the fact that we have gone years and things are still this muddled says a lot to the effectiveness of their marketing/pr/profoundspeak! That coy little 'what have we done' is especially grating given their internal insight into all the blatant inconsistencies in their systems!

I'd also note that the idea of 'training' models is, in some sense, an admission that the desired system cannot be explicitly 'built', which probably factors into things!

It's a kind of split meaning isn't it - we know how they 'work', but we don't know how the phenomenon they are modelling 'works', so it's all a bit of a mess!

“In the beginning, there was "website with other people". And for a time, it was good. But humanity's so-called ‘civil societies’ soon fell victim to "convenient website" and ""no need for subforum"…Thus did man become the architect of his own demise.”

Not to be positively suggesting spending even *more* money on the problem, but I've found game-streaming services (linked to extant steam acc) to be pretty handy for Mac these days, often simpler than emulating, and latency/cost is pretty competitive at this point - might be useful at some juncture!

*Sound of heavy chains rattling as the president lunges, almost preternaturally quick, for the list* "no mr president, not for eating!"

Two images of an Oukitel WP33 phone, with dimensions marked (84mm wide, 175.4mm long, 27.2mm thick) - it is a brick of a phone lol

Why imagine, when you can dive headfirst into the dream (having to always, always have your trousers fastened with this phone in your pocket). Battery life is legit like 4 days though, which in itself has been enough to make up for every single other shortcoming this phone has, as you suggested

The milk-float scene from father Ted where Dougal announces that he doesn't want to be a milkman anymore, with Ted in the background driving a car alongside. Jim Gavin's face has been semi-crudely imposed on Dougal's, and Micheál Martin's ón Ted. The subtitles have been amended to say "Fianna Fáil Presidential Candidate" (in a thematically coloured box) instead of "milkman" in the sentence "Oh, God! I don't wanna be a milkman any more!".

Ireland a mere 3-4 years of exciting modern historical trends away from the Bull McCabe being hastily coopted as some sort of necessary Ur-Father-Figure for these people
