@stephearson
Football - playing, watching (NUFC, KVM, Haringey Borough). Music - most definitely not playing, listening, gigs. Watching old films. Books - buying lots, reading slightly fewer. The 'news', as depressing as it is
Food pic, please
My local pub gets blown up at the beginning of the film!
(The Salisbury, Green Lanes, N4)
First Hitchcock film I ever saw - on a transatlantic flight to Austin IIRC! - and possibly my favourite
Brits can watch this gem on ITV Player
Possibly my favourite film of its era. When people ask me where to start with "old" and "classic" films, this is one I point them to without hesitation
I wish this was better known. Absolute gem of a film. Lizabeth Scott is fabulous in this
The Cinema Museum in London showed this. Absolutely loved it. The bank raid, filmed from the inside of the car, wow!
This is great. Edward G Robinson starred in a remake, can't recall the name, but it's not nearly as good as this
The PCC in London showed this, and A Generation a year or so back. Enjoyed both, but this was head and shoulders above. The BFI showed them as part of a Andrzej Wajda retrospective
Primal Scream sampled dialogue from this on their track Kowalski, so have been semi aware of this film for many years. Finally saw the film last year, didn't disappoint. Bought the soundtrack LP soon after, it just works so well
Utterly preposterous, but fun
The Cinema Museum in London showed this a year or so back - Curtis played it to perfection
Us Brits can do noir, too...!
Incredibly bleak and downcast, amazed it got greenlighted (but thankful that it did!)
The novel would have been unfilmable in the 40s/50s. The film tries, but falls short
Caught this a few months or so back on a free streaming service. Couldn't believe how good it was. Should be better known
Have to see this, purely for the title
This is one of my favourite films. Terrific performances, a cracking script, and wonderful cinematography. Fantastic dΓ©nouement, too
The short story is also worth a read
Let's face it, Carol Reed and Graham Greene, can't go wrong!
Dreaming of... Tuesday
Ah, right. Useful win today, at by rate. Did you go?
Hadn't realised how low down in the league you were, assumed you were comfortably midtable
Wishbone Ash has entered the chat
Try telling that to the policeman in Brussels who deprived me of β¬65 (IIRC) for crossing Rue du TrΓ΄ne while the traffic lights indicated red for civilians, green for vehicles (us regular users knew there was sufficient break in traffic to allow safe crossing)
Big Match Revisited, a wonderful time capsule
Chelsea 1 Notts C 0 - Div 2, 1980. Both sides with Yugoslav keepers, who Brian Moore interviews. Chelsea's Petar Borota talks about his abstract painting exhibit
Chelsea manager Geoff Hurst appeals to viewers to contact him wrt a new training ground
Oh, it did
As did the chants pointing out where the newly-vacated sittong facilities were situated
Thought he was offside in real time and that play had stopped. Ridiculous that wasn't flagged, irrespective of VAR
The absolutely MIGHTY Bass Drum of Death - always great live, and didn't disappoint tonight at Hackney Oslo
For me, 2013. The one year I have not seen a film in my IMDB ratings.
The next year where that occurs is... 1937
Chris Mason's role model
Wish him well. Great attitude, and an example for others. Cared while others, supposedly bigger names and more talented, blatantly didn't. Shame he didn't get a late sub appearance to get a last round of applause
