Nahhhh I cobbled some things together in photoshop because this is just a personal for me project.
Tagging @darcylross.bsky.social for the completed project shots.
Thank you! I’m really enjoying putting all my life skills to work—photoshop, hand painting, craft work all in a package I get to read again after!
Thank you!
I first reread it as a kid but it’s a comfort read I’ve gone back to a number of times and since it’s so pretty now I’m rereading it again! 😆 it could be my nostalgia glasses but it holds up imo.
The sword painted edges with the back cover. The sand dunes wrap around from the front and there’s is once again a gold border, with slightly illegible handwriting over the center that reads “the desert lured her as her own green land never had — but what discovery it lured her towards she could not say.”
A straight on view of the back cover: The sand dunes wrap around from the front and there’s is once again a gold border, with slightly illegible handwriting over the center that reads “the desert lured her as her own green land never had — but what discovery it lured her towards she could not say.”
The back cover, angled, with the wrap around sand dunes over the book spine and gold text that reads “Chronicles of Damar” and beneath, slightly smaller, “Robin McKinley.”
My custom front cover of The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown bound into one volume: a pale blue book cover with a simplified painting of sand dunes on the bottom half. Overlaid are a gold border of the front cover, the two titles (one at the top and the other at the bottom), and a blue foil sword over the middle.
Front end papers— a water coloresque desert with a stone city rising on the left.
The book edges, painted with a sword with a blue gem in the handle and wreathed in blue flames
The back end papers — a misty forest with a dragon flying high on the left and a stone city peeking out of the trees on the right.
It’s done! Of course there are some imperfections I’m hoping I can avoid next time, but overall I’m pretty pleased. This is my rebind of @robinmckinley.bsky.social’s The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown into a single volume. (More photos in thread.)
Book binding forces me to be patient because glue (or paint) must dry completely before I can do the next step. SIGH
The thing about belonging to any scene / community / field for the long long term is that you end up living alongside all these dipshit echoes of who you used to be, and you have to guess constantly about who lost patience for you well before you stopped being those dipshit versions of yourself.
I feel every part of this in my bones.
Yessssssssss Darcyyyyy we are of one mind on this!
A pale blue empty book cover with yellow sand dunes painted on the bottom half.
The vision—pale blue empty book cover with sand dunes painted on the bottom half. I’m holding up the heat transfer vinyl that will go on when it’s dry, which has the two book titles in gold and a patterned border on the front and back cover.
My current rebind in progress—old favorites The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley. The cover is painted and needs to be completely dry before in can do the titles but I couldn’t resist sneaking a peek at how the vision is coming together! #bookbinding
Hey tabletop gamers, if you bought or were considering buying this bundle but got overwhelmed by the number of games to sort through, have I got the spreadsheet for you!!
All 1,074 games tagged as "physical" sorted by play style, with language, engine, and genre notated to the best of my ability:
Q-Workshop webstore showing a search for “Harry Potter”, showing 17 results. The top result being a Griffendor Dice Bag.
Q-Workshop, known for their dice products, has released 17 Harry Potter products seemingly overnight and no prior announcement

The page edge of a book in a book press with a sword wreathed in blue flames painted on them in gauche.
Some painted edges from yesterday. #bookbinding #rebinding
Let's try this again 👋
Hi Bluesky - I'm Massachusetts' Attorney General. You might know me from suing President Trump nearly 50 times, beating Uber and Lyft in court, or being the first woman of color elected to statewide office in MA.
I officially left X today - help me find my MA people?
Front cover of my custom rebind for The Ordinary Princess by M. M. Kaye. One a green cover two sprigs of purple wisteria drip down from the top. A raised section displays the title in curly purple text in the top third and another smaller raised section has the author name on the bottom third.
An angled shot of the book to show off the painted edge. Purple wisteria drips down from the top to about halfway down the page edges.
Same book with the cover partially opened to show off the custom endpapers: a repeating pattern of purple wisteria, squirrels, and crows.
The back cover of the book: A sprig of purple wisteria is hand painted down the left side. Centered in the empty middle are lines of the song that’s in the book in curly purple text, “lavender’s blue, rosemary’s green, when you are king, I shall be queen.”
And my last book I finished — a rebind of a a childhood favorite: The Ordinary Princess by M. M. Kaye.
My custom front cover for Fool’s Run by Patricia McKillip. Blue book cloth with gold lettering and a gold ribbon bookmark. The futuristic text is vertical along the left side on a slightly raised area, with a nebula in the dip and a thin raised bar on the right along the edge where the book opens.
My custom rebind for Fool’s Run by Patricia McKillip. This shows the front cover at an angle with the spine centered— a nebula background with futuristic gold lettering that reads “Fool’s Run.”
My custom rebind of Fool’s Run by Patricia McKillip: an angled view of the book showing the spine edge and continuing nebula onto the back cover. The spine has the title in gold futuristic letters and the back cover is empty except for stars with the nebula tapering off at a diagonal to the far left corner.
Rebind of Fool’s Run by Patricia McKillip. This one was fun because it was my first experimentation with simple embossing on the front cover (it’s not flat).
Hey friends! Parental stuff got rearranged on Phil today, so we are not recording and there will not be a new episode of Panda’s today. We’ll catch you next week with a question about normalizing!
Important to note that bearing witness is something people have done since long before video existed. We bear witness by listening, but sharing the stories, by refusing to let them be distorted or ignored. We do not have to watch execution videos to do that.
A customer rebinding of The Secret Garden: a grey cover with hand painted roses growing in from the bottom and top
Another look at The Secret Garden also showing the back cover: roses growing in from the top left and bottom right and cross the spine. “The Secret Garden” in a flourished font in green on the front.
Front cover of a custom This Is How You Lose The Time War rebind: red book cloth with shiny red circuit inspired lines across the bottom half and a few blue leaves creeping over the top. Title and authors in blue shiny text.
The back of the custom This Is How You Lose The Time War rebind: blue book cloth with blue leaves covering the top half and a few lines of circuitry inspired foil red coming in across the bottom half. In red text are the lines “At the end as at the beginning, and through all the in-betweens, I love you.”
Book rebinding journey so far: I’ve learned a lot but have also been successful enough to become utterly addicted. My next victim is my spare copy of Patricia McKillip’s Fool’s Run.
Hot take: SLATE is a better opening Wordle word than ADIEU.
