Delighted to get this one across the line and into #DIFF2026. It's been a mad scramble over the past month! This is the story of a city fighting for itself as a broken property market ruthlessly chews up its citizens for profit, treats homes as assets and people as obstacles to be moved out.

Una Mullally: Remembering Kate Millett and her Irish Loony-Bin Trip The late American feminist was committed to an Irish mental hospital and rescued by friends

Back in 2017, I wrote about how Kate Millett was rescued by a bunch of friends from an institution in Ennis; Margaretta D'Arcy, Sylvia Meehan, Nell McCafferty, Ivor Browne, Deirdre McCarten, Maere Rountree amongst them.

Millett wrote about this in her 1990 book The Loony-Bin Trip.

Michael Magee has often cited his main influence as Annie Ernaux, which is refreshing.

You do know that this phenomenon is mostly due to the colonial history, partition of the island and the fracturing of the left? For the very first time all left parties of the southern state united behind one single hard left candidate. This is historic and no socialist in Ireland is sneering.

Plus some far right will Vote for Gavin as a protest vote. Of course you should definitely just vote the way you want to vote.

High chance your no 2 may not be counted. Conversely turnout may be low and Connolly will need your number one (if you want her to.) if she does win, great emphasis still be put on low turnout, β€œlack of democracy”, so a clear pref for her expressed by number ones is important.

She was on a fact-finding mission to an autocratic country, then she came back and denounced those very war criminals. I find it hard to understand what the Irish Times is trying to assert - that Catherine Connolly supports the slaughter of Palestinians?

Great to see IPSC are going ahead with this demo!

It's important to mark our victories, clarify why we fought, and celebrate together.

This morale boost is essential; we can use the energy to push the OTB over the line.

When we mobilise together, we can win big victories!

Always helps to remember that the initial essay criticising The Poetry Review for β€œspeaking only to itself” was a review of the issue that included this poem, which was read and shared by tens of thousands. x.com/PoetrySociet...
