Thank you John, it’s amazing how many species are about when you stop and look close! I’ve got a way to go on the bee ID though…

Painted Nomad Bee?
Common Mourning Bee?
Dark-edged Bee-fly
Lots of insects about at Berry Head this morning. Tawny Mining Bee, Hairy-footed Flower Bee, Dark-edged Bee-fly and these… maybe Painted Nomad Bee and Common Mourning Bee?? @johnwalterswildife.bsky.social
Also imm. male Black Redstart still in quarry #devonbirds
No worries, nice that it flew straight in and landed in front of us so promptly!
Yes, also smaller than BHG with thin black bill, small black spot behind eye, grey mantle extending up back of neck and slightly different upper wing. The underwing has very pale primaries compared to black in BHG which is the main thing to look for at distance or in flight.
1w Bonapartes Gull still on Blaxton Meadow this morning #devonbirds #ukbirding #ukrarebirds
I also don’t think it’s Caspian but didn’t seem like pure HG either, presumably a hybrid HGxCasp?
You might be right. It really didn’t strike me as HG though also with such extenuated rear end.
Can anyone help with ID of this gull at Mansands, Devon this morning. It looked good for #CaspianGull as it flew in- neck shawl and white head + tail/rump but underwing was fairly dark. When landed the mantle/scaps quite dark for Casp and wing coverts unusually patterned? #devonbirds #ukbirding
I thought this bird looked familiar, pretty sure it’s one we’ve had in Brixham for the last month. What do you reckon? The contrast is high in this photo but the only picture showing this side bsky.app/profile/sout...
Nice Scarlet Elfcup, one of my favourite mushrooms!
Caspian Gull briefly at Mansands again this morning in the rain. Also 6 LBBG, 10 GBBG, 3 Common, 120+ Herring and 1 Kittiwake on marsh. 2 RtDiver and 1 GNDiver on sea. #devonbirds #ukbirding #patchbirding
Thank you, it showed well and in half decent light today for a change. It’s looking a bit worn now, here it is a month ago looking very smart.
Caspian Gull showing well on the pier at Oxen Cove car park, Brixham late afternoon. #devonbirds #ukbirding
Ad. Med Gull
Sleeping Caspian Gull
One Caspian Gull in Brixham Harbour this evening but no sign of the yellow ringed bird seen yesterday. Also ad. Med Gull #devonbirds #ukbirding
Oh nice yep that looks like the one we saw in January. Might be wrong but the bird on the right hand side looks like it could be the 2nd bird?
Haha yes, I was thinking that! Luckily we have plenty of rain at the moment 😂
Yellow ringed Caspian Gull at Brixham joined by a second bird at end of video! The ringed bird is my 8th Casp in Devon this year having never seen one in 15+ yrs birding in Devon. #devonbirds #ukbirding
Two Caspian Gulls together with Herring Gulls
Yellow ringed Caspian Gull with Herring Gulls
Two 1st-winter Caspian Gulls in Brixham Harbour this evening! A yellow ringed bird that appears to have been ringed in the Netherlands but couldn’t get a ring number without a scope… the other bird is the first that turned up in Brixham this winter on 23rd Jan. #devonbirds #ukbirding
1w Caspian Gull again on Mansands Marsh this morning (probably the same bird I had there on the 15th Feb). Lots of gulls coming onto the marsh but very flighty and terrible weather conditions! #devonbirds #ukbirding
Caspian Gull at Mansands this morning. Picked up over sea and flew straight in to land on the marsh! #devonbirds #ukbirding #patchbirding
Finally got another Caspian Gull at Mansands marsh after a few weeks of regular checking. High numbers of large Gulls this morning (300-400). It then settled on the hill behind the marsh #ukbirding #devonbirds
Not so sure anymore, just looks more patterned mantle but possibly just the photo contrast/light?
I posted your photo with one of the other gull on fb to ask about these birds as they appear different. Someone has replied and said the difference couldn’t be due to moult at this time of year so seems like you’ve found another Caspian Gull! I think that’s 7 in the local area this year!
Really good looking gull! And great photo with the Med Gull too!
That’s not the regular bird, think this is the first one of the run of casps in Brixham and only been seen on a couple of occasions.

Large numbers of gulls in Brixham Harbour this evening including the regular Caspian Gull by breakwater and possibly a second individual with apparently clearer wing bars and slightly mucky around eye. Poor photos at distance and in fading light… #devonbirds #ukbirding
8 Cattle Egrets in field just S of Harleston (nr Slapton) this morning #devonbirds #ukbirding
Black-throated Diver showing very well at Brixham this evening. It even spent some time in the inner harbour. Also 1 Kingfisher, 3 Purple Sandpiper, 1 ad Med Gull and 25+ GNDiver #devonbirds #ukbirding
