Agreed, don't sleep on C. L. Moore. Or Tanith Lee.
I absolutely loved the majority of the Jirel of Joiry story collection I read through a few years back. A sort of horror bent Through the Looking Glass storytelling with a proto Red Sonja protagonist.
Definitely worth a read.
COVER REVEAL!
Our March issue is lurking around the corner. Check out that gorgeous art by Krista-Maria Holopainen! Includes stories by Sasha Brown, Kris Schokrowsky, Joule K. Zelman, Mike J Watson, and more!

Moore is spec fiction royalty, but she isn't read to the same level as her male contemporaries. The omission of Moore (and many other women) from discussions on the weird leads to a false idea that women were not writing the weird (or spec in general) until very recently.
Absolutely love A Collapse of Horses. I've been poking at Lane's The Lost District as well.
I've been enjoying Rachel Harrison's THE RETURN.
What have you all been reading lately?
CHM (or Cosmic Horror Monthly, as I still like to call them) is one of my two favorite fiction mags. Their stories epitomize the brilliance and originality I seek in modern indie horror/weird fiction writers. Great covers, too.

Legend has it that when Farnsworth Wright found CL Moore's "Shambleau" in Weird Tales' slush pile, he closed the office and declared it CL Moore day. The story was an instant success, and immediately garnered praise from readers and from writer contemporaries.

Okay, not cosmic horror but I figure there's some big crossover with Sam Raimi fans. SEND HELP was a blast. A gory survival comedy for folks who hate their boss. Great performances from the two leads—recommended.
