OsAP2Ο, an adaptor protein gene underlying QTL OsTGW12, controls thousand-grain weight through a G266A SNP affecting cell number. The protein interacts with OsSAMS1, linking clathrin-mediated endocytosis to S-adenosylmethionine metabolism in grain development.
This woman is a QUEEN. But also, did you know. A lot of Natural History scientific illustrators in the 19th century, were usually partners and wives of famous male academics. Buckland, Lyell, Mantell, Murchinson, Gould etc. Their academic output was carried by their (invisible) wives.
This post was prompted by hearing from a former AFE who is starting their own lab, yay! If you've been in one of these mentored programs and have moved on, drop me a line and I'll update my spreadsheet. Or drop me a line just to say hi π.
Since I started as Features Editor at ASPB, I have mentored over 500 early-career plant scientists! (Conviron Scholars, Plantae Fellows, and Assistant Features Editors).
I'm so happy to have had this opportunity and to watch the plant community thrive.
You're all in my little green heart π
Just discovered this wonderful adaptation of our maize moving map (figshare.com/articles/fig...) by @andikur.bsky.social .

Crude oil prices, showing a very sharp increase in the last day, from around 65 to 101 dollars per barrel..
Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy.
This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis.
44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.
New article- we developed a strategy to fortify salads with Vitamin B12 in indoor farms. Sorry, no chronobiology in this one! A wonderful collaboration between @johninnescentre.bsky.social @quadraminstitute.bsky.social @bristolbiosci.bsky.social and LettUs Grow www.nature.com/articles/s42...

oh cool, we're at the "I have this knot of anxiety in my chest which I can't do anything about because it's entirely due to the overall geopolitical situation" stage again, nice, happy Monday everyone
This is an absolutely huge jump in oil prices.
It's also why Europe needs to get off fossil fuels asap (beyond climate change impact). We can't be beholden to this.

πΏ Postdoc opportunity in plant evolutionary ecology/genetics!
My lab in the Dept. of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to start Fall 2026.
We study plant adaptation, using weeds as model systems.

Today we have a double debunk:
1. A debunk of the idea that 67 dog breeds are being banned in Britain
2. A debunk of what the usual suspects are saying online (because they are so tediously predictable!π)
π§΅1/21
A voluntary scheme designed to breed healthier dogs somehow became a story about banning your pets.
And then immediately morphed into a conspiracy about Muslims...
And yes, John Cleese fell for it π
And that says far more about the Right and Far-Right media ecosystem than it does about dogs
I am tired of people insinuating that biology education research and disability advocacy within the field or STEM at large are "less rigorous" or "less important" pursuits when both of these areas of critical research are what will help us continue moving the field forward.
Happy International Women's Day! Today we celebrate all the women at Rothamsted who drive innovation and sustainability in agriculture. Their work continues to inspire and shape the future #IWD2026 #WomenInSTEM
On International Womenβs Day, weβre proud to be part of a research community at IBERS that supports equality, curiosity and leadership across all talents, helping our science address pressing global challenges, including food security, dietary health and climate change.
