LLMs can help people get away with this because they don’t even need their own understanding of the rulebook. You just feed in the grant and the EO and say “does this fit” and do what it says even if it’s stupid (it is). but it wasn’t him killing grants according to their theory, it was the LLM.
To try to displace responsibility by showing he acted according to rules from above and not his own ideas. He was just following orders and he did it by the book (EO).
Also not a lawyer but i think the point not stated is that his own understanding of DEI is irrelevant to his work. When he was programmatically killing grants he did it by reference to a specific document and not by interpreting things relative to his own understanding.

It's different because of the context of these things. The impact of being categorized as a white man is less meaningful even though it doesn't feel good to get bunched in with the people who suck because we aren't being affected in the same way by being categorized.
The original post says "white house" but anyway it makes me feel bad when people say "white men" or even "all white men" too sometimes but you just gotta let it go because that's how people talk. If you know it doesn't mean you then just let it be.
