Next time I wake up in the middle of the night I might try to get up for at least a few minutes. Maybe this'll ruin my sleep schedule more, or maybe it'll fix it.

I wonder if it gears our brains to associate waking up in bed with trying to go back to sleep. We wake up at night, go "gotta get back to sleep" then wake up in the morning and go "gotta get back to sleep"

Just had a thought about sleep cycles. Less than 200 years ago it was very common for people to wake up in the middle of the night, get up for an hour, then go to second sleep. It comes up in Charles Dickens' work, which is morel like 150 years ago.
