Still working on its resurrection, of sorts.
Nineteen years ago today we lost a good one when the American Dime Museum in Baltimore closed. Many of my friends, years before I knew them, joined me in trying to outbid David Copperfield for some small piece of this wondrous place.

The new Beach Creeper GLOW-IN-THE-DARK 7” is out now! Grab Your Board includes an original surf rock banger, a creepy cover, and an original spoken-word track that tells the tale of a ghostly encounter at a secluded beach house. It also comes with a mini spirit board and planchette!
He couldn’t make it to my wedding a few months ago, but was a strong and helpful supporter of our oddities museum project and was looking forward to making the trip to Maryland someday to see it.
He will be missed and remembered.
He was a drummer in some bands, so we frequently talked about music. He was inducted as a member and wrote an excellent story for our Thirteen Club zine. He gave me a pep talk on church etiquette on the day this photo was taken, just before services at a snake-handling church in Tennessee.
Nick Phillips was one of the truest, nicest, and funniest people I’ve known. My bezoar-collecting buddy was into so many of the same things as me - from folk magic to mummies to monsters. He was constantly checking in to see how I was doing and was always sending along items of interest.
- Harmer’s Town Art Center hosted its first wedding (ours!), held a cabaret-themed gala, a Preakness party, welcomed Gen. Lafayette back to town, and unveiled a trio of monstrous new mascots.
Here’s to 2026!
- Beach Creeper had a big year, releasing a Ouija-themed record, winning a lucrative battle of the bands, filming a scene in a horror movie, and playing shows with the legendary A Flock of Seagulls, Tim Cappello of Lost Boys fame, psycho-billy originators The Meteors, and another run at Blobfest.
2025 was a pretty great year!
- @dramaticpaws.bsky.social and I got engaged…and then got married, celebrating with more than 150 friends and family members right on the grounds of Graw Alley at Harmer’s Town Art Center in Havre de Grace.
A beautiful and bountiful Christmas morning with @dramaticpaws.bsky.social
A Very PLRLS Holiday Party! at Holy Frijoles was so outrageous that I lost consciousness for 24 hours thereafter!
TONIGHT in Hampden, it’s A Very PLRLS Holiday Party! at Holy Frijoles with PLRLS , Worn Through, a DJ, a Santa, gifts, giveaways, Yuletide cheer, and more!

…kicking off a trial that would reveal to the world that some folks still believe in magic and giving birth to the legend of the Hex House.

The instructions for breaking the hex were rather simple - all the group had to do was get Rehmeyer’s “Long Lost Friend” witchbook and burn it or get a lock of his hair and bury it six feet underground. So they killed him and tried to burn the house down…
Happy Hex Hollow Day
Ninety-seven years ago tonight, on November 27, 1928, a troubled trio set out for the home of Pennsylvania powwow doctor Nelson Rehmeyer - a folk magic healer who the boys believed had placed a curse upon them.
Favorites include “Biological Anomalies: Humans I: A Catalog of Biological Anomalies,” “Dark Days, Ice falls, Firestorms and Related Weather Anomalies,” and “Unfathomed Mind: A Handbook of Unusual Mental Phenomena.”
It took FOREVER, but I finally pieced together all 32 volumes (plus some associated titles) in William Corliss’ massive-in-size-and-scope Science Frontiers Sourcebook Project.
