A Zenaida Dove (Zenaida aurita) standing on a light-grey weathered wooden deck, facing left. So this bird is a Zenaida Dove (Zenaida aurita), known in French as the Tourterelle à queue carrée and in Creole as “Toutrel” or “Toutrel bois” … one of the most common birds in #Guadeloupe apparently. #Birds 🪶

The Victoria Crowned Pigeon (Goura victoria) is classed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List with a decreasing population trend. It is endemic to Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. The species is found in a variety of forests in mostly the humid lowlands, but can occur up to 600 metres above sea level. Its diet includes seeds, fruits and invertebrates. It is threatened severely by hunting for meat and its beautiful feathers, as well as habitat loss.

This is a Sennelier watercolour painting on Hot Pressed Aquarelle Watercolour Paper. it is only a small painting but the bird took me awhile due to my mental state. It is 14.5 cm x 12.5 cm. The Marsh tit (Poecile palustris) is classed as Least Concern globally (distributed across temperate parts of Europe and Asia) but with a decreasing population trend. It the UK it is Red Listed due to population declines caused by habitat loss and degradation. It prefers deciduous woodland to coniferous. They have declined in the UK by 48% between 1995-2023. This species is monogamous and pairs for life and has a diet of invertebrates and seeds. It can be seen frequenting garden bird feeders for peanuts and sunflower seeds. It breeds around mid April but is starting to breed earlier with climate change and typically lays 7-9 eggs that are incubated by the female. They look very similar to willow tits (Poecile montanus), but have a glossier black head, a neater and smaller black bib and a white patch on the beak.

This is a realistic watercolour painting of a Sun Parakeet (Aratinga solstitialis) that I did several years a go (from my own references). My signature is on the right end of the branch if you look carefully. This species is classed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List with a decreasing population trend. It is extant to a very small part of Guyana and Brazil. Its preferred habitat is undulating or hilly landscapes and occurs in dry deciduous forest. The species is threatened by the pet trade and habitat loss. They are herbivorous (consuming fruits, nuts seeds, plant material etc).
