I don’t often think of the history of violence done to peaceful people who were the “disloyal whites” in the freedom riders or the men who supported women’s suffrage or the white abolitionists. It’s not hyperbole to identify with their place in history.
The fight has always been important and hard, any time new rights were earned or oppressors were thrown off. It’s easy to not think about how hard it must have been or how violent the opposition became.
