When the World is on Fire: Why Spiritual Care Still Matters Why spiritual care still matters during crisis. On grief, resilience, and tending sacred work when the world is burning.

When authoritarianism rises, when rights are stripped away, when the fabric of society frays—what is the point of tending to small things? What is the point of spiritual care when fascism gains ground?

If you didn't know, that's our Sanctuary in the background, where Mayor Smiley and Council President Miller held the community meeting. We were fortunate to host our neighbors for this important and informative event.

When folks show up, either inside the State House or outside, in volunteer calls or organizing meetings, it is the people power that can move mountains. Thank you to all who do any of it.

This week we watched two resolutions get passed for black maternal health and supporting the #LGBTQ community.

Talked to someone who lives in Texas - 5 figure donor to DNC.

Said they hadn’t heard about the doctor from Brown being disappeared.

Talk to your friends in other states. Not everyone is as plugged in as you reading this right now.

Spread the word. Spread reputable news. Connect the dots.

The most important thing we can do right now is repost ALL of these types of videos & pictures.

Post signs, post chants - all of it. Spread it on every single social media platform, including Elmo's Place.

Overwhelm the algorithms.

The Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt stands at a microphone, speaking during an outdoor rally. She wears dark glasses, a clerical collar, a gold stole that reads “SIDE WITH LOVE,” and a purple coat. In front of her is a colorful textile with bright stripes draped over a table or podium holding papers. Behind her stand several people holding signs. One sign directly to her left reads “LOVE GOD, LOVE PEOPLE” with rainbow arches above and below the text. Two other signs, one to the right of the speaker and one to the left of the speaker, both read “IT’S TIME FOR MORAL COURAGE” with “SOJOURNERS” written beneath. The background features large trees, green grass, and a park-like setting. The focus is on the speaker, with blurred heads and shoulders of attendees visible in the foreground.

Grateful for UUs and UUA President Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt, who joined national faith leaders in D.C. today to urge Congress to act for the common good. In heartbreaking times, we draw strength from shared values and moral courage.
