“Mark Twain was Broke”: Jeffrey Epstein’s Dismissive Opinion of Twain While slogging through the cesspool of the recently released Epstein files, I did a search for “Mark Twain” on a whim. To my surprise, the search garnered 130 results. After a perfunctory review, m…

Among the many things I've learned from Twain: Maybe the most dependable heuristic for judging a person is who counts them as an enemy.

Dwayne Eutsey found, among the many revelations in the Epstein Files, that this epic shithead hated Mark Twain.

There are moments I have flashes of anger just short of smashing things about this. We threw it away, we fucking chose to throw it away. And be 'we' I do mean the mass public, not just the crazies they voted for.

Israel literally just bombed a demonstration in Tehran.

I am old enough to remember the vitriol directed at random humanities scholars' work complaining about the totalizing tendencies of capitalism to corrupt, colonize, or co-opt everything. I also lived long enough to read long term coverage of the literal attempt to privatize thinking in the newspaper

Funny little anecdote. (not really funny)

A lot of cities have parking requirements for bus stations. They literally will require a parking space for every 3 to 5 seats, or every couple hundred square feet of covered waiting area.

Makes building nice bus, terminals impossible in cities.

The killing of schoolchildren should shock our conscience and cause us to recoil in horror.

A nation whose leaders can so easily shrug off the death of children, no matter the cause, is in need of moral repair.

There must be accountability and lessons learned from this tragedy. And we must never forget that Iranian children, too, are children of God.

Still no censure of Tommy Tuberville, Randy Fine, or Andy Ogles, who are openly promoting hate against Muslims while the US is bombing Iran, killing the Ayatollah, and people like Lindsey Graham are calling it a "religious war" DURING RAMADAN.

How do you think this all ends, folks?

Nice catch from @mainenewsroom.com (also spotted by @jamesxmyall.bsky.social): A federal agent told Maine cops they were leaving the state -- because of weather -- a FULL WEEK before Susan Collins implied she was responsible for their exit.

Typical self-aggrandizing Collins maneuver. #MEpolitics

The police made the first wave of arrests at the ASU encampment within 15 minutes of set-up and women had their hijabs ripped off. Now, years later, the Maricopa Co. attorney is attempting to kill local anti-SLAPP laws to dodge questions about the politically retaliatory charges against protesters.

We are not seeing mass protests because universities and colleges criminalized dissent — not just disciplining students on specious grounds but sending police (sometimes more in # than protestors) and supporting prosecutions. Ppl are terrified.

The least shocking thing ever is learning DOGE used chatGPT to identify which grants were “DEI.” It is critical to understand that LLMs are an authoritarian technology meant to win the millennia-long war on critical thinking and art. They are a right wing wet dream.

Something I've been trying to do lately is formulate my principles and beliefs in positive rather than negative terms - "I believe X" rather than "I'm not like those fucking guys" - and it's been a useful and (I think) healthy little reorientation

Letter: Thank you for Susan Collins for hearing my concerns

Bangor Daily News runs a fawning letter praising Susan Collins -- and recounting a meeting she granted the author -- from a person with the same name as the president of Turning Point USA's UMaine chapter.

No TPUSA in the signature line.

Another Win for Lacks Heirs in Fight Over Her Cells The undisclosed settlement with Novartis is another step towards justice for the heirs of Lacks, whose cells were taken without her consent.

A step toward justice. In an undisclosed settlement, the multinational pharmaceutical company Novartis agreed to compensate Henrietta Lacks’ heirs for the billions in profits they reaped from her body.

Fuck all the way off with this. The student protesters were physically attacked -- some of them maimed permanently with life-altering injuries -- and relentlessly persecuted, doxxed, and hounded by school administrators, local police, and federal authorities while their attackers remain untouched.

The Trump administration could really restore confidence by getting the entire Cabinet to ride a tanker through the Straits of Hormuz to show everyone how safe and easy it is now.

They could bring along a lot of MAGA influencers and Fox News hosts to broadcast it all live!

Then LAPD pretty much bombed the place the next night to kick them out. Then UCLA wrecked the academic careers of many, surveilled students and capitulated heavily to Trump, setting up what I would politely suggest is a draconian culture of surveillance on what should be a public campus
